Decided to head on down to the Town of Occoquan Regional Park for the annual Prince William Cruisers benefit car show today, 26 Sep 10. Weather was threatening all day. Came home with a Top 25 for the day. Look out DOOMie, I'm gonna catch you. You gotta show to win. ;)

This guy parked next to me. Bet many of you think that it is a 1967 Ford Mustang. You'd be wrong. It is a 1967 Ford T-5. Only 453 made. It was only sold in Germany. It is badged all over and never says "Mustang" anywhere just FORD T-5 on the sides, the dash and the gas cap. They left the pony symbol just not the words. This one was shipped to Germany on 26 December 1966. Seems that another manufacturer was selling a different kinda of Mustang in Europe, so Ford rebadged these as the T-5. Understand that Mustangs are still being made under the T-5 design designation. This car has been displayed at the Washington Auto Show and the guy says that FORD has offered him $50K for it. No dice.

It ain't a Mustang. It's a FORD T-5. Yep, it rained this morning. Not a problem. It wipes right off.

Zing!
Nice trophy, man! Not the usual tiny trophy they tend to give out for Top (however many), how tall was the 1st place one, and what kind of car was the overall winner?

Way to go, bubba!
1 of 453, hey that's almost as rare as a Blue... ;)
Wonder if they made any fastbacks? A T-5 Bullit, yummy!

Congratulations Charlie. That's a trophy for top 25? What did the winner get, a freaking monument?

As a car guy since, oh, 1960, I like it when I learn something new about cars, never heard of the T-5 before. Very cool! Thanks for the info and congrats on the trophy!
Wonder if the "T" stand for Taunus? When I was a kid and lived in Germany I think all German Fords were Taunus's.

The T designation has nothing to do with Germany. From what the guy told me, the T-5 is the engineering/design designation for the Mustang. He says that number is still in use today for the current Mustang fleet. He also indicated that this T-5 designation is commonly known by Mustang guys.
The car in the pic was originally bought by a 2nd Lieutenant based in Germany through the PX system. He had it shipped back to Virginia where he kept it until he passed away several years ago. The guy who has it now is the second owner.

Congrats Charlie....Nice trophy!
Being a "Mustang guy" I have seen a 1965 or 1966 T5 Fastback at a show many years ago.
I asked the guy; WTF? and he explained the history to me.
BTW: A good friend of mine had a very clean, original 1968 'California Special'.
He got bored with it and sold it for @ $8,500 wayyyy back in the early 80s.

Interesting article, thanks for posting, Joe.
BTW, if the "real" Joe Walsh had a coyright on the name Joe Walsh, what would you call yourself, Joe Walsh? (AJ was just asking....)
Speaking of rare Mustangs, neat article.
Check the 'Shelby Projects' pics at the bottom, wow!
