View Full Version : OK - I'm "Feeling" 4.10's......but

I thought that this was time for a new thread (with a twist).
From my earlier post (What Would You Do for your MM with $1000, $2000? - I hope that this is an acceptable transition):
What RPMs are you turning at the following MPH's with the 4.10's?:
55
65
(and most importantly)...
75
85
95
I like to "cruise" and have something left under my foot but don't like the the motor to scream for long distances.
I'm looking for the sustained RPMs that the 4.10's will cause the motor to cry "mama".
As always, I appreciate all of your responses and support.
Mark
I look forward to the day when I can meet you and discuss all of this in person. Thanks - Lovin' the MM.

Cannot answer for all the speeds, but here's the difference as I see it after my install:
3:55's @ 80MPH = ~2400 RPM's
4:10's @ 80PMH = ~2800 RPM's
Not screaming by any stretch, and plenty pedal to go.
Mike.

You'll have plenty left under your right foot after installing 4.10's.
I've been south of 120mph with still more left, just started to run out of road.

In case you didn't know, the MM was originally designed to use the 4.10, but government regulations (dB's/MPG?) & bean counters required the 3.55's.

I didn't know that, interesting.
I've only had my MM six weeks but i'm sticking with the 3.55's. With the tune it shifts smooth as silk and cruises like a dream.
I'm not worried about the increased performance, i don't race on or off the track and am quite satisfied with what i have.
So for me it's, why mess with perfection.

You do realize that there is about 8 years experience here with 4.10s? I have NEVER heard anyone say that they regret moving from 3.55s to 4.10s. Lots of folks here have done it and it makes huge difference in off the line performance when coupled with the tune. RPMs will be 15% higher at EVERY speed.

Personally...I can't wait to get my 4.10s! I don't race on the track; nor do I street race, but having that off-the-line jump would be such a rush!

Hey, no big deal. :)
A MM with 3.55s is fun. One with 4.10s is MORE fun, either way, you're gonna have fun!

3:55's @ 80MPH = ~2400 RPM's
3:73 @ 80MPH = ~ 2500 RPM's

Added 3.73..

Just as the majority stated, it is worth the time and money to have 4:10’s installed. The increase in the RPM range is minimal. I live in the high desert and travel long highway distances just to get anywhere pleasant. At about 75-80 mph, the RPM’s are just around 2800 (with my tune). On the highway with overdrive on, you can cruse until the wheels fall off. You will hardly notice the difference in RPM’s.
With the overdrive off, combined with a good solid tune, it will have what you’re looking for when you’re in the city (street light to street light). It will be very difficult to erase the ear to ear grin, after this modification. :D

Don't ask just do it.
There should be a sticky in this form.
"questions about 4.10's? JUST DO IT!!! you'll be happy"

Nothing wrong with the stock 3.55 ratio (especially for use with a supercharger). Most of my driving is in the city, so the 4.10 is probably better for me than the 3.55.

What would I do with $2k?
Put it in the bank, save up another $1k and do the Eaton swap.

You can either save your money and wait for one BIG step with an S/C'r, or take small steps and spend a little as you go and work up to it.
Your choice.

So true. I ran 4.10's with my nitrous but prefer the 3.55 feel.
Save up and order that Trilogy. Or better yet, finance it. You only live a couple of times.

Can someone get the upgrade in the 2003 and 2004 models? How much does it cost to get the 4.10 gears?
Where does one get a tune in the NJ/Philly area and what types of costs are involved?
Whats a trilogy? :(

What upgrade for a 2003 or 2004 Marauder?
4.10's could cost up to $200.00.... all depends on who makes them and what you want to pay for them. I prefer Ford Racing gears.
Need to find a shop that will dyno tune your MM. Price will vary.
A Trilogy is one type of supercharger that will work on a Marauder.
IHMO... it's the best custom-made one and would probably been an option for the Marauder if the production had continued.

$200 doesnt seem bad, is that for the parts and installation?

Gears only. Then installation cost along with Gear lube, bearing, cup, crush sleeve and a pinion nut.
Gears swaps average around $500.00 - $600.00 from what I have read on here.

I just got a quote for $300 for gear install at Speed Inc in my neck of the woods.
I told them I would supply off the fluids, 4.10 gears, and install kit.
I am still going to get a few more quotes.

I also got a quote for 300 from speed Inc but they wanted to keep my car for 1 or 2 days. I just told them forget it. It doesn't take that long to put gears in my car. They probably wanted to drive the hell out of my car for 1 or 2 days

Maybe they told you that incase they have to redo them due to poosible whinning after the initial install. They told me to give them about a 2 weeks notice to schedual.

If the gears are installed correctly there will never be any whining. If they whine after the install they were installed incorrectly.

This isn't a 15 minute install. One or two days sounds reasonable, as they'll want to test drive the car and check for whine. Often times lash will have to be re-set after installation.
If you're worried about them beating on the car, write down your mileage when you drop off the car.
Also, FWIW, beating "driving the hell out of your car" isn't something a reputable shop is going to do.
