Well , it looks like there is still a1/4 mile track that is staying open. Check "Hallsville Raceway" thread in 'Community discussion'. Their web site is http://www.voy.com/16212 . How does it look for a NTM group on Dec 20th??? Let's get something going NOW!!! I know this is the last week-end before Christmas and short notice---just a thought--let me know if you want to do it., Maury

I like the caravan idea.
Maury- you know how we operate...you pick a spot and and time and we'll show up. Take command. This is going to be fun.

Logan- I'm glad you're going to make some pre-Trilogy passes. It'll be interesting to see the Kook's & 4.30 times. I don't think that combo is in the database.

O K, you asked for it, here it is. We will meet at the Denny's just west of the I-20, US 80/557 junction at 9 AM on Sat, the 20th of Dec, 2003. We will have breakfast and then proceed to the track, which opens at 11 AM. check www.dennys.com select "store locator"--"Texas"--"store # 77"-has maps and directions. The phone # there is 972-524-7260. Now, those of us in Tarrant County and Dallas County, Racer, MIB, Hemlock, Logan and any others should pick a spot to meet around ,say, Big Town Mall and convoy from there ?????--need input. Let's make this work--our friends from Shreveport and Memphis may also be there ---6 or 7 Marauders should get the track crowds attention. Maury

Post on the Hallsville raceway site mentions that some Impala SS guys may show up too. They also mentioned about contacting the DFW Impala guys about our "invasion" on Dec 20th. Sounds fun. I've never seen a fast Impala SS up close.

Maury, remember I-20 has construction between US-69 and US-271 with only 2 lanes of traffic. You may want take 69 to loop 347 in Tyler to 271 then back on I-20. I will see you guys @ drag strip. Norman

Sorry to invade your forum and will not lurk around, but wanted to welcome all who come to Hallsville next Saturday. There are four of us Impala SS owners who regularly race at Hallsville. One from Bossier City La. one from Kilgore, one from Longview, and one from Gladewater.

I have only seen one MM here in Longview, so I am glad to see some of you come out.

Actually, I travel that way quite often since I'm in Kilgore, and my girlfriend is in Lindale on the other side of this construction. The traffic really isn't that bad through that area unless it's a holiday weekend or something. Yeah, it's only 1 way in each direction, but it's a smooth enough transission and barely doubles the time to get through that area. Since that is a few days before Christmas, it might take a little longer, but it would probably take more time to go down to Tyler and back up 271.

Just tryin to help ya'll out a bit :coolman:

I've noticed that the MMs seem to get better MPH as an impala with the same ET. I guess the fact that ya'll got an extra 42hp from the factory helps that.

He's got all that stuff done and only ran 13.7s? Wow. He'll get some 13.50s if he hooks at Hallsville ;)

I wish I could get my other engine together and installed by then so we could show you guys several 12 second impalas. There will be at least 2 there for sure, but I've invited a few others.

Logan
12-14-2003, 06:53 PM
Alot of that "stuff" isn't necessarily performance related as much as it is "beefing" up stock parts. Plus he lowered his compression 1.25 points, which he'll have to work harder to get the same power levels.

Anyway, I'm expecting 13.5's from my car, provided I can hook these 255's up...

I don't want to get into an arguing match. Pretty much everything you've listed is performance stuff.

The only negative thing was the compression, but that just means he can spray it more. How big of a shot is he spraying anyway?

And there is one big ommision from the performacne stuff he should have. Sticky tires. The key to a quick ET is getting off the line and it's very difficult to do that on street tires. ;) That's one thing you'll notice about us impala guys. Most of us swap different tires on the back for racing. Besides, 17 or 18" tires are EXPENSIVE and burnouts wear them out too fast.

Anyway, it looks like I will for sure be at the track saturday to race with you guys :)

My plans are to be in Hallsville Saturday. Right now I'm sitting in a motel room in Oklahoma City, my baby is in Bob Howard's FLM body/frame shop. I had a rather ugly high speed encounter with a ditch on HWY 9 east of Norman, OK during the big snowstorm on Friday. As of this moment, I don't know how serious the damage is or when I'm going to have it fixed. I hope it's done this week.

I don't want to fly under false colors here. The engine upgrade is scheduled to start on Monday, December 29 (the two weeks over the holidays was the only time I could schedule it), so I'll still be running the wet nitrous with a 150 hp shot before then. All the other preparations have been made for the stroker upgrade. If I can get to Hallsville, I will want to talk to you guys about some sticky rubber. My inclination for the track is ET Streets ( I know ET is coming out with drag radials, but not sure how soon), 16, 17 or 18 " wheels if I can find something with a workable offset. I don't have the right wheels for the Goodriches yet, so I am still running 275/35/18 Goodyear Eagles (OEM Corvette tires) all around currently.

The 13.7 times posted were from Ennis, where I was basically running DR Stage I, the Kooks headers, the Goodyear Eagles, and a 75 hp shot of juice. I would expect to run faster after everything is done, assuming I can get the right rubber on it. So, it's not the car I intend to run in the spring quite yet. Hope I can see you all there.:banana2: :banana2:

Hey, by the way, what is the Hallsville track like?

I was disappointed with the track conditions at Atco, yet I get my best ET there. I guess I was spoiled by the track in Ennis.

12-15-2003, 07:27 AM
Jim, sad to here about your encounter with the ditch. Glad to hear your O.K. Even if MM is not ready, you can ride over to Hallsville with me to check out the track and talk to the guys. Hopefully, not snow/ice/rain in the Ark-La-Tex next weekend.
Keep us posted on progress...ttyl...

About the track conditions at Hallsville... I've only been to Ennis and Kennedale, so I don't have much to compare.

Well, they've got a bunch of rocks in the pits. They'v been there a LONG time, but the current owner is hoping to pave the pits next year.

The stands are also old, but they work. I don't spend much time in them myself. If you've got a good folding chair, bring it with you. The impala folks usually park around the middle of the track and break out the folding chairs to chill between rounds.

The track itself is pretty dang good. Everybody that races there goes quicker than they do at Ennis. I'm gonna try to work something out with the track so the big cars will get to race each other without any problems.

Do you folks prefer heads up or bracket racing?

2003 MIB

I prefer bracket but won't claim to speak for the group.

I had another idea. Why only limit it to the Marauder (and it's siblings) and impala SS (and it's siblings)?

What if we open up this "class" to other similar vehicles? We could put a weight cut-off at 4000# to keep it in the same spirit. This might draw some trucks, but we could limit it cars only.

One reason I thought of this is to get more participation. I told the guy that got me into impalas in the first place about it and he thought it was cool. He owns a repair shop that specializes in European and Asian cars and mentioned that one of his customers might bring his 90s S-Class Benz out to race. It also runs in the mid-high 13s.

This might be too much to start out with and we can limit it to American only cars if ya'll think that's a good idea. :alone:

The gates open at 11 and racing starts at noon.

From DFW you take I-20 to Exit 509 and head north. You'll go through town and through some twisty roads. The track is outside the city limits on your right. If you pass it there is a road you can turn around on right past it.

Just an FYI, I May not be able to make it.

Both the twins and the wife are sick with the Flu, and to top it off, a little old lady blew through a red light last night and totalled the wife's minivan in front of a bunch of witnesses who kindly left their numbers. (Wife is perfectly fine, but the minivan most certainly isn't!). Fortunately, the kids were home with me at the time...

But needless to say, I have a crapload of "stuff" going on as a result.

I'll make it if the kids are feeling better.
