Ctrlraven started the thread "what did u do to your car today?"... good thread
as i just did my weekly walk around my car (looking for new dents and paint chips and other issues)
i decided to make this thread, just to see what issues ppl have going on with there car right now, no matter it be cosmetic or mechanical
so i guess i will start....
1. spoiler needs to b painted
2. 3 rims have curb rash (was like that when i bought it)
3. front drivers side rotor has a nice groove in it, car gives a nice "shimmy" while braking.
4. AC blows out of the floor vents when i have it on defrost
5. brake lights come on periodicaly
6. and the car needs to b waxed and buffed badly
good news, no new dents or scratches
thats about it
Whats wrong with your car today?......
I'll play
1) seepage from tail shaft seal-needs a new seal and bushing
2) car drives ok but needs a re-tune by a more competent tuner
3) drivers heated seat is inoperative-need the lower seat grid
4) both heated seat switches flash-needs new switches
3) could use some fresh paint, rock chips and scratches are starting to add up and the rear bumper has a small spider web cracks.
other than that car is great:burnout:

hmm where do i start:
pass side headed seat switch flashes, drivers is out
half the window buttons dont light up
drivers seat makes a click
something is loose on the exhaust and rattles
windows are slow as balls
belt squeaks
steering wheels has a very annoying click that happens when just starting to move the wheel either way.
i seem to be getting DVI (direct vent injection) so the ac smells like death
mpgs are at like 16 overall average driving like grandma
drivers door creaks, no visible wear int he hinges, no play either.
im sure there is more.

My list:
1 car needs to be stripped of all paint and bondo and redone
2 tint has to be redone
3 front tires are close to replacement
4 all five wheels have some damage to them (the spare is the worst)
5 may have trans issues that could cost a bundle of $$$$ to fix

Depends on your definition of "wrong".
Phoebe has some chips on the hood from all the highway driving that Bunny does. 2 of the wheel centre caps are loose. There's a small burn on the console because the previous-previous owner smoked. Since they don't affect the operation or enjoyment of the car, I don't consider them to be issues.
Here's my list of things I consider wrong (and are being addressed):
Driver's window switch is intermittent.
Driver's heated seat inop.

It is holding up better than some. Last thing fixed was those pesky window switches.
What it needs is a good wax and buff job, hopefully soon.:)

Well, where do I start?
Headlights and markers are EXTREMELY hazy
all wheels have either scratches or curb rash
Engine has (hopefully just a lifter) tick
Converter is starting to slip, trans needs new fluid
Suspension creaks
Rear brakes squeal like a pig when they're cold
Divers window switch panel pops up everytime I close the door since I replaced my switches
Drivers window comes off the track when rolling up
EATC only blows out of defrost and only has one speed
Oil Pressure gauge light is out
Need a new rear tire
Car needs total repaint

Other than the basic "it's not mint because it has 100k" cosmetic issues (and it really looks quite good for 100k if ya ask me), the only problem I've really got is that the front end makes a slight creaking noise when I pull off from a light. Almost like the shocks are worn or something. I haven't looked at it yet.

A ton of things:
One window switch on the master panel doesnt light up
Driver side rear window regulator AND switch is inop
Small leak from the base of my electric water pump
Exhaust leak from EGR tube to manifold (drives me insane!)
Still running exhaust dumps not a over the axle setup:(
Need to put one more layer of carpet on the interior trunk lid
Need to install aftermarket oil sender so I can actually see pressure
Just installed a new windshield tint strip which was charcoal instead of black and has to be replaced again:mad2:
Need to respray many interior pieces as they have a ton of scratches
I could probably go on and on...Dont get me started on my wish list:burnout:
Oh yea and my HVAC blender doesnt work!
Dayum, guess I'm lucky, only interior problem is a bit of damage to the console and that's not overly noticeable... It is missing the lower trim on the steering column, a trip to U-pull-it will fix that...
There's a slight bit of on center play in the steering... That problem is because the plastic bushing that fits through the firewall has slid down into the engine compartment, causing the shaft to have lateral play, should be a easy fix...
The rear bumper has some paint damage on the lower part, have a buddy that can fix it... There are a couple minor dents in the hood, don't really bother me...
What I mostly want to do is upgrade the brakes, the stock ones suck(at least on this car), my '98 & '07 MGMs both have better brakes...

Well, where do I start?
Divers window switch panel pops up everytime I close the door since I replaced my switches
When I cleaned my switches, I realized the previous owner broke the hold down tabs. I put it back together and it would pop up. Nothing to get good purchase to glue it down. I bunched up and pushed the wires down inside the door just right and the pressure of the wires holds it down nicely. Took me about 60 seconds!

Needs sixth set of rear tires in the 87,000 miles I have on it.
Headlights are hazy.
Paint is aweful.
Need new tuning chip since the old one desn't work since the PCM had to be replaced and is a different code.

10-04-2010, 06:28 AM
Drivers window switch control (passenger front up doesn't work)
Windows are slow to go up
Needs carfixer alignment done
Still have slight pulsing in brakes but all rotors/pads check out
Order another set of DDM 5000K hid bulbs, one of them the high beam function stopped.
Replace front struts in the near future
Hopefully the new trans pan gasket will stop the seeping otherwise I'll need to replace the tail shaft seal.
That's all I can really think of besides body/paint work.

Need to replace rear pinion bearing before the noise at high speeds kills anymore small canines.
Repair the BURN HOLE in the CENTER of the REAR SEAT because the previous owner was a MORON that couldnt find an ashtray (really, if youre gonna smoke, smoke like an adult, okay?)
Replace the passenger side window switch since it only goes up. (Since thats my wifes side Im not in a real big hurry to fix it)
Get a good stock radio to replace the pimpometer currently installed.
Fix the dash to accomodate the stock radio since previous owner confused an install kit with a dull utitlity knife (dick)
Remove the inopertaive "rear entertainment system" that is inoperative and is as large as a drive in theater screen.
Repair hole in headliner from said rear console TV
Finally, wash and wax the car. I should have done it this weekend but somehow the wife thinks the house is more important. (I cant divorce her for one bad error)

Saw oil on the oil pan rail so Im hoping its not leaking and its just residual from a oil change.
Need a new rear spoiler
Minor scratches in the interior as pointed out at the MV8 car show judges.
Clicking in the front end on turns.
Slight harmonic vibration at idle and low RPM, likely due to my tune being off since I replaced everything that cause possibly be a cause.
Other then that, everything is as good as it can get for a 8yr old car. Even my original 300A paint is great shape.

Biggest problem for mine is the nut that holds the steering wheel. I also have finicky window switches, a lot of the dash and gague lights are out, a part time ping at WOT, and it still smells like a smoker drove it for more than 200K miles.

Usual scratches (most been there before I got the car)
Rear bumper sag (apparently was too late before I got the progaurd)
Previous owner had rear windows tinted (back window bubbling up)
Someone parked next to my spot so I had to squeeze in to my spot at my apartment complex and I got to close to the pole on the right so I scratched up my rear tire wheel well
Noticed recently that my hood paint don't look so good
Scratch on the hood that I think the apartment complex landscapers did
Barely noticeable smear on front bumper from when I got to close to a car parking (the owner was willing to let me go but I insisted on paying for it with my insurance)
Scratched up center moulding around the A/C controls (some was there when I got the car but some was from when I did my o-rings from the EATC)
Marauder rim scratched from when the Midas muffler guy didn't quite get the car on the lift correctly
Sometimes my mirrors don't adjust using the joystick
Sometimes one of my rear windows sticks before I can get it to go down
Replaced the usual bulbs in the gauge pod and the fuse for the cigarette lighters (gauge pod is kind of loose)
Some of the paint is chipping off of the rear bumper
I can see where the lower rear section of the trunk is starting to seperate from the top of the trunk
The rear tail lamp peaks out a bit of the light from inside when I step on the brake (was like that when I bought it). Its not flush enough with the rear deck I guess
Got the BCM fixed
Armrest on driver side door panel seperating from the door panel
Carpet on driver's side door panel is coming off a bit (was that way when I bought the car)
Trim moulding on the right side of the car shows scratches from apparent hit and run in a parking lot
Also, someone scratched my passenger mirror (by parking too close?) at a motel and hit and run (they scratched it enough that the mirror flapped back into the position for the car wash)
Cover for spare doughnut tire seperated from the carboard part
Cracked windshield replaced
Worn hood liner due to K&N CAI kit
I get the puff of white smoke on start up when the car has been sitting

That rear brake light is adjustable. I think you can just loosen the screws, push it closer to the window and re-tighten the screws.
I just had mine out and saw the adjusters, put it back on and did just that.

No problem. Its a Ford, they seem to work better when abused.:D
Good thread, along with the usual challenge of trying to keep a black car clean, I need
Replace passenger side mirror assembly. (broke the hold down clips one day when taking off the cover, it stays on on over 90 mph, it just falls off if you apply upward pressure)
Fix slighly rusty rock chip above the wind shield (rocksmerc has the same chip and it hasn't degenerated, but I keep and eye on it if it tries to spread)
Fix OEM radio / finish installing 07 mariner radio (FM frequency locker broke on OEM, need to send it out to have as a backup; upgraded to a 06/07 escape mariner radio, but it still sticks out slightly, probably just needs to be pushed down or that plastic piece trimmed)
Replace the belt, maybe the pulleys wheels (discovered where that squeak was coming from, and put old belt back on, it's worn the black coating of the ungroved pulleys and they are starting to rust a bit on the edges)
Find a cure for the spider webbing on the rear bumper (when I first was getting used to how big the car was I got too close to a drain pipe and a obtrusive concrete corner, so both corners of the rear bumper got pushed in and spider-ed when pulled it out)
Find out why the engine overheats in gridlock (I think my coolant maybe low or there may be a bubble still sitting way in the back of the engine where it can't escape)

Compressor for rear suspension making a loud groaning noise. I took it out this morning to rebuild it and hopefully get some more miles out of it when all of the screw heads broke off off and one of the ears of the aluminum housing was also cracked.
Going to attempt to patch it up and repair while I get some funding together.
Also, the rear parking brakes are back to not working, so I'll have to pull the rear rotors and get to that soon. . .

Let me tell you how much of an adventure that was! Oh, and even after stuffing my switch wires down in the door panel AND bending the metal tabs for a better "fit", the panel still pops up when I close the door. Guess I'll be buying a new one, it's scratched up anyway...

Well i just replaced the lower control arm bushings, front rotors and brakes, 1 stud that was broken and an oil change.
However, the car feels like the rear wheels are skating on ice.
Its very slippery and bouncy. I looked the car over while it was in the
air and everything looked all right back there. Any ideas?
Check your control arm bushings. They make look fine in the air but you would need to pull them off to see if they are ripped. Mine were ripped at 60k miles with a NA car. When I would take turns the body would move back and forth and just feel sloppy on turns.

Dogs nails scratched into the passenger side front door paint. Previous owner liked to scuff the bumpers on things. Idiots at work that like to open their doors carelessly. I can fix that stuff. Windows roll up like they are on molasses. Driver's side mirror seems 'shaky' compared to pass. side.
BUT ---- What is it with all this paint rubbing off the dark gray interior parts?
Around the cup-holders...under the clock...by the power door locks...it's like you look at it and the gray wears to black! Literally, I ran my fingernail under the clock and the paint came off. ERROR!
CHEAP...CHEEZY...UNACCEPTABLE!
Not to mention the rear end noise I've had since day one (for me)at 34,000 miles....currently at 42,000....that nobody wants to touch. Bad bearings..I know. Still makes me ill...Panther platform around since '79 and the have a batch of CHINA bearings go bad for the '03's....figures.
As far as I am concerned--it was almost the perfect car (needed another 100 HP), but that they rushed it into production, overpriced it, and then killed it. Ford was a few years too late...after the '96 Imp died. Glad I didn't pay near the $35,000 price tag I'd seen some go for when new.
Irritated that I'm stuck with a glorified Grand Marquis that nobody but the dealer will touch. Minus the farmed out China bearings, it would probably be fairly indestructible.
I Like the car, but I don't LOVE it. I feel like I am taking care of it for someone else to eventually own, while I drive it. Let's face it, this car was made to compete with the '96 Impala SS, and the Impala spanks it, so what is it that is wrong? They have similar weight, the Marauder has the gear advantage, similar HP....I don't get it. The Impala I had would **** and get, the Marauder feels like a dog comparatively speaking, and my Impala had 3:08 gears!
Of the 45 or so cars I've had that have come and gone in my short driving career, that means it's time has come....I don't mean to bag on you guys that are in love with this car - I wanted to be- but it's just not happening. That sudden boost of acceleration we get can be had buy a bunch of cars nowadays...I guess after waiting so long to fianlly get one, I'm disappointed and jaded. I should not have to drop another 5 large for a supercharger to make me happy. I'd rather buy a $3500 ex-cop car and do that, than spend 12 large for a 'rare' car and have to upgrade, but maybe that's just me...

It is what it is. If you let things go unattended, they pile up and you end up hating the vehicle. Sorry about your perception, just a tune makes a big difference in drive ability and satisfaction. Stop lamenting on what they should have done or get another vehicle. I guess I lucked out on my first Marauder, 142k when sold and few problems along the way. Best vehicle I have ever owned in near 50 years of driving.

1) Leaking oil around filter
2) Throwing emissions code and inspection is overdue
3) Radio display is dead, but the radio started working again after a couple of years of CD only. I used to be able to see what station it was on by punching the dash, this method is no longer effective.
4) Transmission shutters with stock tune.
Those are just the ones off the top of my head, this car has been endless problems (compared to all of my previous vehicles including my '95 ford truck with more miles and nothing but fluid changes and brakes).

Can I play too?
I have two paint flaws, one on the edge near the hood where some grease monkey dropped a tool on her years ago, but I didn't notice it until later and couldn't "prove" he did it. The other is a gouge in the paint where a garage door pulley flew off and dug into it.
My center console still squeaks every time I go over a bump, but once I get the clips put on I am hoping this goes away.
My Infinity Basslink sub is loose - needs the bolts tightened, but since the gas tank is so close to the rear shelf where it is installed, and I am not crawling under to do this myself, I will have to find someone more competent than I to do it.
My power steering pump is leaking and every time I make an appointment to get it replaced, it snows or we have an ice storm. I have summer only tires and will not drive the car on snow.
Due to crappy recoating at a nationally known wheel place, my rear rims clear coat is peeling off. I will get them refinished sometime, but I think I might powder coat all 4 rims black, that textured black paint. Yeah I know people here don't like it, but I do. I think I might do the window trim at the same time.
I recently replaced the coils and the bucking problem (at 2000+ RPMs) has not returned but I have only driven it about 40 minutes since then back in November, due to weather, so that could still be an issue too.
Other than the paint, if I get these few things taken care of my car will be in near perfect condition at 95K miles.

Man where to begin...
-Foot pedals no longer adjust - broken plastic gear.
-Thought I felt tranny slip, needs new fluid.
-EATC o-rings gone, defrost vent only.
-Fan motor now stuck on high, and won't shut off unless you pull fuse,BCM bad AGAIN I think...
-Driver's side mirror starting to act up, not adjusting properly.
-Airbag light came on this winter, who know why at this point...
-Suspension light came on month after replacing compressor, unsure why or if related to new compressor which seams to be working fine.
-Radio reception is horrible with defrost on, broken defrost stips in rear window.
-Passenger fog light socket all corroded and shorts out bulb, needs to be replaced.
-Tachometer doesn't work all the time drops to zero at idle and bounces to life from time to time while driving, who knows why.
-Driver's door creaking, unable to find proper spot to lube to make it go away.
-Driver's seat belt sluggish when retracting.
-Hole in driver's seat from seat frame wearing through.
-Interior grey paint rubbing off in some areas.
-Driver's window buttons have lost their lights.
-Driver headlight cloudy.
-Caught a rock in the windshield this week which cracked it, calling insurance tomorrow.
-Oww and lets not forget the rear wheel bearing seal that's gone out covering the inside of the wheel with grease...
I've already replaced the BCM once, three sets of front tires before carfixer's specs cured the tire wear and replaced the compressor... I'm having difficulty keeping up with this vehicle....

Still not supercharged. Hate being quick but not fast.
My drivers door electric lock has failed. The door locks and unlocks manually or with a key but not with the FOB or inside switch. All other doors OK.
Could be a bad switch contact or a solenoid.

Just had the car painted, new windshield, and tires about 8 months ago so no problems on the outside. I just replaced the alternator and idler. So I guess they don't make the list now.
1. I have a new drivers side lock actuator and window regulator ready to go in.
2. Some type of noise from the driver side rear brake. Mechanic told me that it's coming from the parking brake assembly that I probably damage when I had to beat the crap out of the rear rotors to change them last year.
3. The worst problem is that I have no radio reception. None. Push the scan button and it just searches and searches and searches. It won't even pick up my satellite radio from the whole two feet away.
4. The power mirror button sometimes doesn't work.
5. Passenger side rear window switch only works some of the time.
6. The auto dimming mirror occaisionally needs a tap to work.
BTW any suggestions on that radio problem would be appreciated.

Get the OEM radio repaired, swap it for a Ford escape radio or go aftermarket.

Sounds like the lock solenoid is bad or disconnected.

Well mangs it appears that I have to take my Panther to the mechanic now, while i was driving the BP74i I start to hear a annoiyng noise that came from the front like squeaking I think that the front links cannot hold more and are about to colapse (broke) time to repair the front suspension.

 Well Marauderers, it seems that the hidden malfuntions declare war to me but they are F:censor:D and lost this time the ABS light sometimes comes on and others don't, and the rear passenger side piece that holds the rubber tail hanger it broke well it is a plastic part so i will go to the " LAND OF THE SHADOW AND DEATH OF THE PANTHERS" ( THE JUNK YARD) there's many donors where i can find that part, about the ABS light I have a strong suspect that the front ABS sensors are severely damaged but is not a problem I ordered and monday will be in store, follow this and more in my thread dedicated to BP74i " Interceptor of interceptors and crap garbage scrap sport compacts " :banana2: :burnout:

You're either starved for fuel or starved for spark. Changed that fuel filter lately?

No ignition wires on a Marauder engine. Probably a coil breaking up under a load. Most of the time you wont get a code with it.

Wipers stopped working during a rainstorm and the driver's wiper stopped all the way over the driver's mirror. My Marauder is in the shop for unrelated body work, but as soon as I get it back, I'll have to get at the wiper linkage and motor and find out what the heck happened in there.
Any advice/links for wiper linkage/motor diagnostics?

Look under "Wacky wiper syndrome" There is a flap underneth the wiper motor which is supposed to drain out water and debris. When it gets clogged, the wiper motor control module which is located in the motor itself gets wet and starts making the wipers have a mind of their own or just stop.
Clean out the area and let the motor dry out then try it. If it don't work then replace the entire unit.

Thanks for the tip. I am certainly going to check for that while I'm in there. My biggest concern is that the driver's wiper left the windshield during the rainstorm and was hanging over my driver's side mirror and then stopped responding all together. When the wipers were in the on position, I could hear the wiper motors, but the wipers were limp and lifeless. I'm hoping it's something I can do for no parts and little labor.

The wiper arms have teeth and a key way. If they were removed and the keyway was lost, its possible you stripped the arm over time. Or the linkage from the motor to turn the arms is stripped.
Unless something came undone, I think you may have to invest a little cash.

My wiper issue was luckily a no-part, minimal labor fix. The only cost was the last of a case of PBR while Fairlane347 and I took it all apart and put it back together. The wipers arms and the gears on the wiper arm post were in good shape. The wiper motor was moving fine. The problem was a linkage arm connecting the wiper motor and the wipers. It had popped off on both sides and was sitting upside down. It popped back on with some muscle and seems to be holding for now. While I was in there, I picked out a heaping handful of soil and leaves in the catch. I could have grown a plant in there!
Now that my wipers are working (for now), the next fault emerged on my car. When cruising on the freeway at ~75mph with the overdrive engaged, my transmission kept unexpectedly downshifting into 3rd gear. This time, I wont be able to pop a cover open and snap things back together. :( Time to transmission shop!

My EATC "O" rings and the front end squeaking. Its getting annoying. Also I still haven't fixed the hood squeak because the local ford dealership claims they can't get the little rubber things.

noticed on the warranty claim printout that in 2004, customer reported engine light and missing.
Replaced #2 and # 5 C.O.P. and spark plugs, and performed WDS test pinpoint ignition test.
What's a WDS test?

World Diagnostic System test. It tests the COPS and all sensors to make sure its working properly.
Chances are you have a coil going bad under load and thats your miss at 4K RPM. Your local Ford dealer can test the coils for you for $100.

Look at the your cam covers (valve covers) you'll see 2 raised covers held in by 2 10MM bolts. The coils are under there hence why they are called "Coil covers". :D

I cant believe what a bad week its been,,, Spitting out a spark plug,,, then a lady opens her door into mine and chips my door!! Installed new (rebuilt and overpriced) eatc,,, air moves thru all the vents "WIN" but now compressor not going on,, at least before I had cool air,, now just hot air in my face!! Well I have been smelling antifreeze for a few days and couldn't find it...drove today to Cincinnati to my sister's house and went outside to the car after I arrived and found a pool of it under the car...needless to say I found that the crossover tube o-ring is leaking on the left side so I guess I will try to find a Cincinnati dealer to see if they have the o-rings...ITS ALWAYS SOMETHING!!!
Broken motor mount, on my '63. Should have a new one tomorrow.
