View Full Version : Brake squeak why?

I recently replaced my drivers side rotor and brake pads because I was getting uneven pad/disc wear and it was making weird noises.

So now I have a brand new rotor and brand new pads but when in the descending 25-0MPH braking zone it ALWAYS squeals like the pads are severely worn or something but they are brand new!

What is going on here? Am I missing something? :alone:

Did you apply anti-squeek to the pads? My pads will squeek every once in a while from dust buildup. I just make 3 or 4 hard stops and it disappears.

I did not apply any anti-squeak. I'll look into this and do a few hard stops."

Oh and do you have a recommended brand or type of lube I should use? :P

Did you use anti squeal compound on the back of the pads? Usually a tube will come with the new pads. Also the rotor surfaces should be turned, or roughed up with sandpaper, not polished.
I would also do the other side as well so both front brakes will be equal....

You replaced one rotor? I don't believe in just replacing one, brakes is not the place to save $$, did you resurface the other rotor atleast? If not then that may be your squeal. I also agree that you should put brake lube on the slides, the shims, caliper fingers and piston, basically anywhere the caliper contacts the pads and where the pads slide back and forth on the bracket.

The pads did not come with any brake lube for some reason but I will run out and get some for sure!

I only did one rotor...and yes it is a money thing, lol. I'll do the other one ASAP.

If you go back to the auto parts store they usually sell small little packets of the disc brake quiet lube near the registers or you can just ask them for it.

If your seeing uneven wear and now the same side is squealing with new pads Id look at the caliper and make sure its not hanging up in the bore...also I know a lot of people dont, but brakes generally should be serviced in pairs.

I lubed it up today real good :P and did a lot of hard braking, so far the problem seems to be fixed.

KY 'X' is the best. Doesn't get all sticky during "rest" periods. Expensive.

But worth it.

lmao, lubed it up today real good and then a lot of hard breaking. A lot of lube and hard braking usually solves all my problems with my fiance. I will have to try KY X, never heard of it.
