I'm ready for my exhaust upgrade - a do it myself job with an exhaust builders help. I was going to remove both rear cats and replace the mufflers with Flowmasters and leave the tips alone. My exhaust builder recommends some Thrush mufflers - don't know exact model number - but he says he can get them at $40+ each and they are stainless steel. Any thoughts??
Thanks,
BILL

Be prepared for the onslaught. People are all over the map on this subject. Magnaflow, Areo 2525's, Flowmaster, Dyno's a few Thrush guys. I'd recommend attending some local meets and listen to other cars before you commit. Removing a set of cats will change the sound. Changing the tips for non-resonator tips will change it again. Do a search on YouTube there are many different clips there as well.

What's the goal of your "upgrade"? Are you looking for more sound or more performance?
As stated in replies to other threads, consider gears and a tune as initial mods, exhaust can wait, and thenlook at going with headers and then working your way back from there.
If you can find 'em, FRPP shorty headers are a good low-cost option. Rear cat delete and high flow cats in the front, along with 2 1/2 in pipes back to the mufflers will help the engine breathe better. You'll want to go with a dyno tune after opening up the exhaust as the air-fuel ratios will change (car will run leaner).
Lots of guys are running Flowmasters or Magnaflows here, haven't seen too many with Thrush, so don't know much about them.
If you're looking for real strong performance out of your car, why not just save up your bucks and go S/C? Real bang for the buck there.

For an upgrade I would recommend a set of shorty's and a full 2.5" midpipe swap with high flow cats and leave the rest alone, this will get you more efficient flow and deeper tone.
Remember with aftermarket mufflers you get what you pay for.

its all about the sound you want. my 3 choices were aero turbines, super 44s or slp loudmouf 1's.

I don't know about the Thrush ones, but I just got Flowmaster 50's; full mid-pipe swap; and removed the 2nd cats. More power; and a sound that I like very much. The 50's have no drone that I can find. That's why I went with them.
