View Full Version : Chrome valve covers

I now have the valve covers back from the chrome shop and
they are slated to be installed this week. The story behind this
is very interesting and started with TAF in Atlanta. Todd bought an extra set of valve covers from his dealer, had them powder coated "ladies choice" red. After he installed them he sold his take offs to Petrograde in Dallas for the very nominal sum of $50.00 who in turn had his powder coated "best detailing" blue. Petro then had them installed and sold me his old ones once again for $50.00 for me to have chromed. Now the next person in line for them is Marauderman Tom in North Carolina, whom if you have been following his exploits, is in the process of going the "nuclear" route with a DR supercharger set up. If he still wants them (it took me 6 weeks to get them chromed) I have offered to ship them to him for the same $50.00 fee and include the shipping charge. Once again the brotherhood of MercuryMarauder.net is more than just a chat site. Because of Todd's total unselfishness in passing along his covers he has started a lineage that will probably continue for a long time and grace the engine compartments of many a MM.
Oh yes it costs me $300.00 to chrome them. Down from the original $400.00 quoted by a shop in California.
To view them go here.

Billatpro, please check with Marauderman, he will now be the man
who will pass them along.
Dan, sorry but I don't think I can make it on the 20th. Will miss you guys so take some photos.
Thanks for the credit...but...I must give credit were credit is due...
The 1st person to powdercoat the valvecovers (red) was Jefferson-Mo (who I truely miss being around here). Then...
A fellow Marauder-owner and member of this site here in Atlanta, Steve (glassman99) approached me months ago saying he'd PM'd Jeff-Mo and Steve was the one who came up with the idea of the "chain". I purchased the extra valve covers that Jeff-Mo had and Steve and I got ours powdercoated red at the same place, at the same time.
Just wanted to set the record straight...
But...on to more important things....Rumble....those look GREAT!!!!!
Well done, my friend. I tell you...ALL of you '04 guys should be doing this (polish) on those naked aluminums. And I bet you'll be able to cut that cost a bit...

Damn! Just when I think I know everything! What did happen to
Jefferson-Mo? He was the first but I didn't realize he started the
chain.
No...Steve (glassman) came up with the chain idea at one of our breakfastswith me...Jeff-Mo was just able to unload his valvecovers to me for the $50 he had in them...(for those of you that don't know...Jeff-Mo works at a dealer)
So THAT is why this is a good deal for everyone...$50 is the price...no profits anywhere...how you handle shipping is between the parties...my recommendation is to find your next buyer in the chain before committing to buying from the "holder".
If I was interested...I'd be beatin' down Marauderman's PM box about now...cause his car is down for the next 8 days and I bet he wants to do the swap while it's with Dennis.

Sure would be cool if Dennis could match them up with the color of the supercharger bits. Reading this marauderman?

He can...it's already been done on someone's car here on the coil covers.

I'd like to get in the loop eventually also.
No chrome for me though, I wanna powdercoat.
Will this affect my warranty?:coolman:

No impact on warranty unless the valve cover leaks after you've installed it. That would be questionable.

Actually, Dennis is doing something special on the "covers" for me --
If it looks good and I like it , I may not go with the "red" covers--however, I am waiting delivery, like rumble, to see/make those decisions upon receiving the my new MM......
So ,, as I had to wait so long for the covers ... please indulge me a few more weeks and I will let all know --if either my covers will be available or you may beat on rumble's door -
I appreciate rumble's rememberance of "turn" on this issue as he stated I have advanced my MM further and until I see the new install, I cannot determine if the "red" will be what
should follow-- This is what makes our group of members so good/great--- working and helping out each other and being upfront ---
So have patience and give me a couple weeks..... Thanks...Tom

Marauderman,
I will wait for your reply, just let me know what you want to do.
I apologize for these taking so long but I used a Biker Chrome shop here in Dallas. They do outstanding work but you have to wait in line. Have you in turn promised them to someone else down the line? If not it looks like Billatpro in the Twin Cities spoke first.

Petro,
Took it to Eagle today and told them to call me when it's finished.
My next step is to either polish or chrome the upper intake. A certain web meister who lives in Dallas is going to screw a Trilogy blower on his car which will make a upper intake
temporarily available for the treatment. Also I will need to get the coil covers chromed, Does anyone know if we can drive with them off?

Petro,
You will need to check with Logan on the intake, My deal with him was that I would return my old one to him after I got his chromed and installed on my car. He may have other plans for it.
It would look super on yours with the matching blue.

Gary-
Don't drive without coil covers. I just installed the Kar Kraft covers and have a set you can have- gratis. I painted them poorly and they are ugly but would be suitable for use while your set is out for coating. Want them?

Hey-------I want in on this. I've just about run out of things to chrome on my Harley. Boy----my wife's gonna love this----NOT.
I definitely would be interested when ever a set is available. It looks like from the posts above that there are several of us here in the Atlanta area. We could swap every third Sat at the "Breakfast Club".

Mary-san,
Over at the National Harley Truck Owners Club forum (and the Lightning Forums), the software they use automatically closes a thread if it gets no activity for a period of time, the their cases, 30 days. Maybe Logan can do something here similar, say threads older than 6 months or 90 days?

"Search" function. You know, the one everyone yells at others to use when they ask a question that has been asked numerous times...;)

I guess the pics were taken off or expired after 3 years, unlike these long lost threads.

The thing about "old threads" is that they often contain imbedded pics hosted on websites other than our gallery. Things change at those websites, and the links could connect you to a meaningless pic today.
Even with our own gallery, it's crashed and has been rebuilt 3x now, so, very old threads with pics may lead you no where at all.
I have no problem with looking at the old stuff, I sometimes laugh at myself for what I said 2-3 years ago. The only thing I think about, is that it'sd a courtesy to others to mention that you have revived it, make mention that it's an old thread. This helps some of us keep the facts clear in our trains of thought and contuinuity
Just my .02C, carry on gents.

If so, they are not "chrome", rather a high polish powdercoating (like I have used myself on other stuff).
At 499., they seem pricey to me, but that's my humble opinion. In the catalogue, the Ford Blue covers listed just below them, are 299. Makes me wonder what's up with the ad.
This ebay ad also says something about "wheels weighing 45 pounds each", which makes me think it's a wannbe Ford Racing reseller who doesn't know his stuff. Something isn't right, so, bid with caution?
Just trying to help out, carry on gents.
