View Full Version : Sound like IAC needs cleaning? Also more belt slippage...

When I start the car up, especially in the mornings, but mostly any time it's been sitting for an extended period of time, I'll briefly get idle surge similar to that of blower surge, except at a much faster rate. I found this morning that it is GREATLY exacerbated if I very gently press the throttle while still cold, like just enough to open the TB. The car also has a sort of rolling vibration in the engine at any temperature as well, as a few others have described.

I've just recently cleaned the MAF sensor, but I don't recall if I've ever don the IAC. You guys think that's what's giving me grief?

Also, I've found that with the cooler temps my belt seems to be squeaking again, but only briefly on startup. In the morning it's been dipping into the 60s down here, and the dew point is so close to the temps every single day that my car is covered in moisture as well. Can anyone that's used dayco belts testify to any problems with cooler/colder temps and/or heavy condensation causing belt slippage?

Thanks guys.

Was everything ok before cleaning the MAF sensor? If so I'd double check that area for leaks etc...

No actually, this problem was there before the cleaning. I feel pretty confident that it had nothing to do with it, I thought it would've at least helped a little but hey, at least my MAF was ok. :P

IAC isn't hard to remove and clean. It may be full of carbon and oil deposits.

Well, as of this evening car is in the shop to (hopefully) put an end to the rear-diff problems I've been having with the car. This weekend once I have it back I'll clean the IAC. Are there any other components than the IAC and MAF that I could check or clean that would possibly cause a rough idle?

DPFE, Fuel Filter, plugs, cops, O2 sensors, fuel pump, iac, maf... Lots of things can cause a rough idle. I'm going though the list myself... I may have a vacuum leak.

I would recomend doing that along w/filter & MAF that just did that today and and . I was stunned how smooth the idle was afterwards & thats considering I didnt have any problems at idle before doing and still noticeable diff.
