View Full Version : P0174 - lean bank 2

I've searched and I read them all. I got this CEL twice about 1 week apart. Have have already cleaned the MAF and have replaced both front upstream O2 sensors. (Drivers side is a PITA)
It runs a bit rough when it's cold (20 seconds) after that it's smoother than ever. Bank 2 is what side? Is it the side with the PCV valve?
I am guessing I have unmetered air getting into the system via a vaccume leak but don't know how to find it.
Any tips guys?
-Thanks!
Could it be my DPFE? http://www.aa1car.com/library/ford_lean_codes.htm

Bank 2 is the drivers side. Which is not the PVC side. Take a can of either and spray around the intake. If the idle jumps up, you found your leak.

Starting fluid. Any gas station or auto part store.

Embarassingly my K&N FPIK tube was a bit loose at the tbody - tube was too close to edge... Put that back on securely and tightened down clamps. This is on the drivers side, but would that not make BOTH banks lean? Also tightened down my upper intake (has KarKraft spacer on it) which already seemed tight, but I went 1/4 turn more on some of the bolts.
I did spray starting fluid around the drivers side and got no raise in revs - however I did this just after starting it. Should I wait for closed loop mode (warm) to do this?

No, if its sucking air, it will do all the time.

Any chaffed wiring around the fuel injectors? Unplug and replug all the connectors to the injectors also. Maybe even use a little dielectric grease on them. Hope you find it Eric.

Not necessarily true..if its a gasket it may only do it when the car is cold or warming up.. a lot of the ford cars I have worked on acted this way..one the problem is a gasket....have you found the problem??

I'm not sure, I've adjusted and tightened the intake and CAI, installed new OEM O2 sensors (65K why not anyway) - waiting to see if it throws a CEL.
I guess I should get off my butt and datalog,

If there are no other DTC's present then the following problems may be the cause.
• Check the air intake system for leaks, obstructions or damage
• Inspect the entire length of all the vacuum hoses for: * Proper connections, * Damage or cracks, * Damaged or cracked Tees
• Verify the integrity of the PCV system
• Verify the proper PCV valve part number

Redid the intake pipe and replaced EGR/DPFE and I'm good.
