Hello marauder brothers,
I have a 2003 marauder with 48k miles on it, I'm thinking if I should do a rear end service and change to synthetic and ofcourse add the ford additive (friction modifier) to it and trany service as well, what do u guys think, also is it true that the 04 marauder has a better transmission than the 03?

You shouldn't need friction modifier if your using a synthetic fluid. BTW... use 75w140.

Only use Mercon V in the tranny.

The Marauder was fitted with the 4R70W 4-speed automatic in 2003 and received the upgraded 4R75W 4-speed automatic for 2004.

If you search, you'll find the difference between the 2.

So if I go with fully synthetic on my rear end I don't need the additive? What if I put it anyways? And is it possible to fit the 04 trany on the 03? Thanks

Using the friction modifier shouldn't hurt anything.

Yes you can swap tannys but you might also have to swap or reprogram some of the electronics.

Years ago I flushed and filled the 8.8 rearend in my Mustang. I used Amsoil with no modifier - also 'cause back then I didn't even know I needed it - but I called Amsoil on the phone, and they told me modifier wasn't needed with the synthetic.

If you take it to a Ford dealer they will use 3 quarts of 75w-140 gear lube plus the 4 oz of FM. If you do the rear yourself, 3 quarts of Mobil 1 (make sure it says Limited Slip on the bottle), Amsoil, Redline or Royal Purple 75W-140 full synthetic will work and you won't need any Friction Modifier. The rear end fill plug is on the front side of the rear axle on the driver's side.

What kind of trans service were you looking to have done?

Just make sure you open the fill plug before you drain any oil.

DO It

Mine has 56K and will get new fluid before the snow flies.

Not all synthetic fluid comes with friction modifier, check first.

Def pull the fill plug BEFORE removing the cover. Can you believe the plug came right out of this housing??
