I love the car, but the CD changer is driving me nuts. I load it up, and it plays. When I turn off the car and restart it, it gives me an error and switches to the radio, not ot work again untill I eject the disk case and plug it back in. When I took it to the dealer, it would not repeat the problem. ( I even shut it off and restarted 4 or 5 times! ) Once I left the dealer it was right back the way it was. Any ideas :mad2: :help:

No ideas. All I can tell you is that I load mine up, play it, it gets warm, it gets cold, I unload it, load it up again, play it...etc.

Never a hiccup.

I've had this happen occasionally on CD-Rs, and only when it loads them up. Meaning, on some CDs, I could get it to happen by flipping through the CDs (using 'TUNE') and even on some occasions by flipping from a late track on a CD (such as track 18 of 19) back to the first one, but by going forward (ie. track 18 to 19 to 1)... seems the unit gets confused at that point, shuffling back and forth and then it 'jams'.

When it jams like this ("CDDJ ERROR") I also noticed that the mute button doesn't work. Instead of muting the sound, it reports 'NO PHONE' on the display, just as it would if the radio was off and you hit the mute/phone button.

The only way to snap the unit out of this mode is to remove and reinsert the cartridge of discs.

Because of the 'mute' issue, I still think it's a software problem. Also, I'd get the same results with a non-CDR disc if it was a mechanical problem.

you could play MP3's on it.

Take your's to the Dealer, Teamrope. They'll have to care for it.

Someone on a local F-body list was looking into a gizmo that allowed his factory CD changer to read and play MP3s. I wonder if anyone's working on a similar product for Ford CD changers?

Oh? That's interesting. can you get more info?
What gets me is that we have 3 2002 Focus Wagons for service vehicles. Their head units play MP3's. And they only cost us about 12k each!

IMO the temperature ( extremely Cold ) can effect the performance of the trunk mounted CD player.

^^^True^^^

Mine acted up last winter. They don't like cold, and moisture. Afterall, the unit IS in the trunk. Not the best location for sensative electronic equipment.

Thanks all,
Took it to the dealer this morning, and they're gonna chage it out. Also had the condensation problem in the headlights, they're gona change them out too. All under waranty of course. From the input I've received from you guys I can say Lincoln Murcury of Olympia has one of the good service departments. Next trip I'll have to see about meeting the service manager, and talk about MODs ;)

I had not seen any of the older theads about Zaino, so I didn't know that you couldn't get it at CSK. They had Zymol, though, and it sure did a number on my white 95 GM. Kind of want to keep it now, even though it has 147K on it. :coolman:

Next, gotta talk Mrs teamrope into letting me order Zaino. Ya ya, and Silver stars, and Reinhart chip, and 4-10's, and Triology MS SC, and Metal Matrix driveshaft, and..SLAP!!! Ounch! Mrs teamrope says no!:argue: ( In good time, I just have to wear her down. :D )
