When my climate control is on auto my AC will not blow out of my dash vents. It use to work fine. Now all I can get is cold air out of the defroster or floor ducts. Every now and again it will come out of the vents as designed. I have pushed every combination of buttons I can but no luck. I see someone selling rebuilt dash controls for Crown Vics on ebay for $169. Is this a common problem. Any idea if it is an easy fix. I can dive into anything if I know what I need to go after.
Links to repair sites would be a great resource if anyone has something to offer.
Thanks!

This repair I was able to do myself using this site as reference. The EATC is not a misterious device but the unit with the buttons to change the temperature.
You will need needle nose pliers and a saturday morning. get the o-rings first before you start or the local hardware store may not have the best type. and do not over bend the retainer sheet metal. I used a slight coating of vasoline on the Orings only, so the Orings would last longer. I wiped off any excess vasoline so it would not get into the electronics.

What type of o-rings did you use? If you use Vaseline, which is petroleum based, on regular rubber o-rings you'll be doing this repair again since the o-rings will deteriorate. I use silicone o-rings and use silicone dielectric grease as a lubricant.

Did the O-ring swap on 2 defunked units. Didn't do ****. I finally got lucky and scored one from a yunkyard that works great. I'm thinking about sending one of the extra's do the "rebuilding" companies to see if they'll fix it then re-sell it or to have a spair since ford wants $600+ for them.
