I tried this search too, but got nothin'. However I did find these large black cars with black chrome wheels and decided I only like black wheels on light-colored cars.

This is the color i was thinking. On the Saleen. I might just go and do it. There are a couple of places around me that do plating...hmmm may start getting quotes.

I think it looks okay if you are going for the total black out effect. If you leave your window trim chrome, you need some other chrome bits or it looks weird.

I have black powdercoated wheels, as well as a few others. There are a couple of cars with real chrome plated Marauder wheels also. I don't think anybody has gotten black chrome. Most people prefer the OEM polished/clearcoated wheels.

I think I would look at aftermarket wheels and keep the original wheels original, there are less of them everyday.

This is true and they are ungodly expensive too.

Plating fully covers the wheel and makes it non-transparent.

Using powder coating for black chroming will depend on the surface it is being applied to. Black chrome is a transparent color so on polished wheels it will turn out more reflective/chrome looking than if it was applied to base aluminum.

Black Chrome is powder coating.

Are you sure about that?

Yep. I'm saying for the purpose of doing wheels black chrome powder coating is the way to go. Sure you can plate it with black chrome but it's going to give different visual results.

I know people who have black chrome powder coated parts, you can do either way plate or powder coat.

Plating and powder coating are NOT the same process and give VERY different results! One is wet and one is dry.
Black Chrome PLATING is plated over a chrome plate not over a base metal.
Powder coat that simulates "Black Chrome" is still powder coat.

In my search I have seen both black chrome and some wheel refinishing company has what they call "shadow chrome" and it is actually a powder coating. So next question is which do you think would still have more of a reflective look while still being dark?

I dont really care for any aftermarket wheel I have seen on the car. I was going for blacked out look. I have badgeless grill, blacked out window trim, 25% front tint and 5% rear. If I took a shot of the car anyone think they could photochop it for me?

I don't have any experience w/the powder coating finishes but the Black Chrome is not as hard a finish as normal chrome plating and it is easily scratched/hazed over. If the car is a daily driver I would be hesitant to go with the black chrome unless you are prepared to go to great extremes to clean/protect the finish.

You should check out the wheels on Big Dog Jim's car.
I believe they are Bullits w/the black centers.

And from reply # 11

Black Chrome Plating:
Black chrome is usually plated over bright nickel or matte nickel in the same manner as decorative chrome. Black chrome is not quite as hard or wear resistant as normal nickel/chrome and it is not lustrous. The finish may waxed or oiled to improve the final appearance. Black chrome offers high solar absorption and low emissivity useful in solar panel applications. It is also used for optical components, gun sights and components, lighting and plumbing fixtures and some automotive parts.

Note the operative word "PLATING"
not "POWDER COAT".

"Black Chrome" powder coating is a finish that LOOKS like black chrome but ISN'T!
