When did you guys do the first change?? What oil....Ford 5W20???
I'm thinking at about 2000 miles with a new filter!! I also have a magnetic device on my oil filter to catch any ferrous stuff floating around!!:)
Any need for a magnetic drain plug??

Jack, I get mine changed by the dealer so that the oil change is entered in OASIS. For 25.00, the local 'Marauder Tech' changes my oil and filter using Motorcraft parts including six quarts of Motorcraft 5W20 which is atially synthetic. He says that for my purposes it is all I need.
And, I do exactly as he says, getting it changed every 3000 miles.
Get ready for the full sythetic pitch from everyone else!

Different people have different requirements.
Motorcraft 5W20 is a synthetic blend that performs fairly well. Your mechanic is correct that for 3000 mile street driven change intervals, that is all you need. In fact my data shows that it would be OK for up to 5000 mile street intervals which is what Ford recommends.
I would not recommend Motorcraft 5W20 for supercharged cars, cars that are raced, cars that tow, or for anyone who wants to extend their drain interval (not recommended for cars still under warrant).

Jack - I always change the oil on new vehicles at approximately 1,000 miles. I am also using Motorcraft 5W20 syntheic blend.:D
I changed mine at 1,000 and every 3,000 since then. Changed at the dealer with the Ford factory synthetic blend and filter.

Well........
Just changed it at 1000 miles and I really wonder if they could have put the filter in a more obscure place!! The other thing is that you cannot fill the filter and install it....Thus a "dry" rattly start until the oil pressure comes up!!
I know they say it doesn't hurt anything but it sure sounds bad!!!!

I also started flipping the tires side to side at each change, trying to exetnd life.
