Does anyone know if this is a direct (bolt straight in) fit for our cars? This is the newer Mustang auto trans.

That's a great question, I would also like to know. I doubt it does but I would think someone has a some kind of relatively cheap alternative. I think I would like another gear or two in my car more so than i would like a blower. That's saying A LOT. haha

I have a line on a cheap PI converter for said tranny, and would buy the tranny for a project of mine if it works.

That is a serious down grade, they are not very "beefable" and alot of Mustangs have already been under the knife recieving the 4R70. I looked into this a couple years back and found it just not worth it, atleast in S/C'ed applications.

IT will bolt up, all Modular motors have same bellhousing pattern. Is it direct?.. that's a good question. Perhaps some minor customizing will be needed. I know Baumann Engineering makes a controller to use a 4R70W in the S-197 Mustang so I don't see why they wont be able to make a 5R55 controller for the Marauder. The 5R55 with a deep sump oil pan and a bit of beef up can hold 450 RWHP.

Just the application of having a true 4 speed with O/D would be nice. Is it worth what it might cost to tune it probably is another question.
The 5R55 was used in the Aviator so there is a factory ECU designed to control the 5sp and our engine properly. You might even be able to use the Aviator shifter.

wow, 5 speeds would be nice. especially driving over 120

That's a pretty good idea! Wiring harness, etc... can be donated from an aviator and you can put your timing and fuel tables from your Marauder tune into the Aviator ECU!! That might be worth looking into.

If I'm correct, the 4R70W stands for 4-speed, rear drive, 700lb./ft., and wide ratio. If the same is true for the 5R55, then 5-speed, rear drive, 550 lb./ft. Sounds like it wasn't designed to handle as much power?

NEGATIVE!!!! From Ford auto trans shop manual--- "...4R70W stands for 4 gears, Rearwheeldrive, 70 arbitrary number assigned to unit, Wide gear ratio."
FYI the '5th' gear in a 5r55 is for downshifting only.

Here you go, now you can have 8 gears.

Que? What does the overdrive gear have to do with downshifting?

I shift 10 gears at work, Im no way going to shift 8 in my car. :D

I was told by Jerry W that the 5r55 has 5 gears, but the 5th is never used other then in aiding the car decelerate.
Maybe i misinterpreted him? Maybe he didnt know better?
Whats the real scoop?

Sorry for the thread Hi-Jack...but does anyone have the specs for the new 6 speed automatic in the 5.0 Mustang?
That transmssion must be stout...it's running behind 412 HP.
I'd be interested in that as a Marauder swap candidate!

Bolting it in is simple, controlling it is not!

It's 4 forward gears with 4th being 1:1, 5th is OD

True! With just a tune of shift pressure you can increase its torque capacity by over 60 rear wheel torque but, controlling it is the issue. In my 1st post in this thread I mentioned Baumann engineering makes an external driver to run 4R70W's in 05+ Mustangs so maybe they can make one to run the 6speed in the Marauder...... for a price!

If that price was under 1500 bucks, I'd be all over it like stickers on a Honda... :D

LOL.....
If I was going to mess with that new 6 speed transmission....:hmmm:
I'd just 'shoot the wad' and get a new 5.0 DOHC Coyote to put in front of it.
110 more HP....70 more Ft-Lbs of torque.....and better gas mileage!
We were discussing this swap at this past weekend's CAM meet in Gettysburg.
Kurgan has already figured out the drive-by-wire and power steering issues on this swap, as another member posted up a thread with the Coyote engine swap into an early 90's Mustang.

Correct Bob - the 5R55x trannies were (are) in the Explorers and Aviators and most enthusiasts found that they struggled to do anything better than 600HP. The 4R7x in our cars is rock solid with almost double that amount of power. I have read about some Explorer users "upgrading" their 5R55x to a 4R7x so they can put more power to the wheels.
Many of the 5R55x also had issues with blown gaskets, weak solenoids and wearing of the case from the servos (incidentally I have an Explorer with this problem that I am fixing soon).
My advice is don't do it - the 47Rx in the Marauder is arguably one of Ford's best.

At that point winter is over I'm sure some spoiled 18yr old brat put his 11 Mustang into a pole so grab motor, trans and wiring harness form that. ;)
