today at about 60 mph i noticed my MM up and down shiifting repeatedly until i let of of the gas, i was not hammering it to get there and was nervous that this could be a sign of a problem. Hopefully it was just intbetween shifts and could not find where it wanted to be, but i wanted to get some opinions from you guys first. It only happened once and did not do it again. Any inout would be greatly appreciated.

Try this.
Find a clear road with an incline. Nothing crazy, just a few dagrees. before getting to the hill set cruise control to 45ish, and alow it to climb the incline. If it does it with no problems, then thee is nothing to worry about. If it struggles or down shifts, there maybe some tranny issues.

Might also tell us if this happened FULLY WARMED UP or shortly after startup this morning. If this happened within the first 3 miles of yur driving this am, then TRANNY was not fullly warmed up. I don't think an accurate assessment can be made if not fully warmed up. Plus ditto what Phil said.
BTW, I have a Temp reading for Tranny fluid on my Vette and it takes like 6 or 7 miles to get it warmed up. Tranny warms up more slowly than the engine oil.

We may be missing the point here! Does he have an '03 which is noted for the tranny hunt, or does he have a new '04 model with the updated tranny? If the '03 model, we all know this does it and the only way to correct it is with a reflash of the eec or a performance chip from Dennis! Since no further info from scareme is given, we're all shootin' in the dark here. He's also a junior member, with only 18 posts, so, although he's been on the board since 3/03. He may have missed the tranny posts! We'll help where we can, but more info is needed!;)

Thanks for the replies. The car is an 03 and it did this to me after about a twenty mile run down the parkway. Actually since i posted it did it to me again, however this time at a slow acceleration to 25 mph. It gives the car a jerky feel to it. Im hopefully going for the stage 1 soon, however this is making me nervous. But if it commonly corrects the problem then i 'll go for it

If you have a dealer that is on the ball go their.
Get them to take a ride with you.

If your dealer is not an option then hopefully your got another shop?

I have a '03 with 12,000 and have not encountered that ship problem that you discribed.

Keep us posted.

scareme:

Just to collect all the info possible in case you need to go to the dealer, try driving it under the same conditions with the OD off...

Also, not to be TOO obvious, but have you checked the transmission fluid? If it's low, that can cause the symptoms you're describing, too...

As others have said, you may just be experiencing the torque converter locking/unlocking...Stage 1 will definitely fix it if that's the case...

ScareMe --- I met you at the McDonalds near Monmouth U on Oct. 30th!! Sorry, but I forgot your name... darn. Anyway, I had an issue like yours occur twice (and only twice). Once I was on the Parkway in North Jersey and slowly accelerating near 80 mph. The trans started swapping between gears and it really freaked me out (you might say that it "scared me"). After I let off and accelerated again, it went away. The other time was on Rt 37 and I was doing about 50. Same thing happened. This was over the period of about 4 months. No problems since. Good Luck.

P.S. -- You thought my exhaust sounded good then? You should hear it now!!
