Wider tires certainly make our hefty cars look good. I love my Nitto's thinking very hard about some NT05R for racing

I am on my 2nd set of the 555's- 295/45/18 on rear w/stock rims there great except for very middle tread wearing 1st( genectic to our cars)! better traction 1st say 5,000-8,000 after that they seem to loose a little grip.

been running 295/45's all summer, alot of high speed cornering, I would say car feels better with the fatter tires on the rear, before with stock rears the rearend liked to kick out of the off ramps doing 65mph with the fatties i can take it at 75 and the car almost under steers untill I get on the gas a bit more. basically it seems to have balanced the car out more.

How much does it cost to have them widened? I'd rather do that and go with the 305 and get it over with. Only problem you run into then is the tires wearing down the middle. I had this problem on my 1996 Impala SS

Check with Weldcraft in Michigan:
http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/index.html

IIRC they are $250 per rim to have them widened from 8" -> 9.5" width.

Excessive P295 tire wear in the middle should NOT be a problem on widened 9.5" rims.
That is the width that P295 tires should be mounted on.

Running that tire with higher PSI will make it have the traction and wear of a 245. It'll wear right down the middle. Its not a "marauder thing" Its a "to fat of tire on to skinny of a wheel thing"

Putting that much width on an 8" is a waste of money and will make the car handle like ****.

If you want a nitto to fit a stock wheel get the 265/50/18's

ive had my mm since it was new in 04, always ran bfgs until i had enuff, the 295 handle far better than the bfgs ever did!, as for a waste of money thats your opinion, but to say it makes the car handle in a negative way is flat out wrong!

if you want a nitto get what you want! your car, your dime:beer:

I ran the 265's on stock rims witch were worlds better than the bfg's and 295's on widened rims great with a stall and supercharger. For me I followed the manufacturers suggestion and aired on the side of caution. The bfg's are **** tires IMO so either Nitto on any size rim is a improvement, just accept the fact that if 295's on oem rims fails it's your fault

after burning rubber any tire will be like that. if bfg's made nitto size tires id run them. PLUS 555's are HORRIBLE in the snow, bfg's move right through it.

The 265/50's will hook better, last longer, and handle better. on an 8" wheel.

Take a piece of paper and push the sides together. Notice how its curved? thats what your tread is doing. Sure it looks "flat" on the road when mounted. But trust me its gona be a waste of money, tires, and time.

Marauders do great in the snow. You just need to understand how to drive in the snow.

If they were so aweful in the snow...why do police agency's use panther platforms?

law enforcement units change to winter tires, add enough weight over the drive tires and snow tires sure they do ok but I wouldn't call it great I drive all kinds of cars the panther platform is 3rd on my list as some of the worst winter cars behind the Lincoln LS(02-05 T- bird) and the mn12(T-bird, Cougar & Mark 8)

They aren't that different. 3.55 gears, watts link, and airbag rear suspension. Not really any difference when it comes to driving in snow.

Ntd: Well of course you use snow tires in the snow. Correctly equiped for conditions including the driver mod an MM can go just about anywhere. Hell ask my wife. She dialy drives her Cobra in it. (Blizzak's FTW!) You can't complain how a car handles in the snow when you show up at an ice skating rink wearing Nike track shoes.

Regardless of my smart ass attitude, Thank you for your service motown.

I didn't know dam's could even drive. Are you as good as the Hoover Dam cause that's one hell of a dam. Or did you mean "damn"?

Nittos are summer tire, the tread design is not meant for snow nor is their temperature because under 40* degrees they harden up and traction becomes an issue even on dry surface.

You said your car is a 4x4 hybrid and all this other stuff. I guess it really wasn't then. I got some big 4x4 snow tires on steelies if you're interested.

I've been driving the panther platfrom exclusively since 1981 as my daily driver. I live in NY and lived in NH from '87 to '94 and the Panther is one of the best vehicles I have ever driven in the snow. I never add weight to the trunk and have used snow tires but not on the Marauder. Just finished the 9th winter in the Marauder with no problems! I DO HAVE to be at work when it snows - always has been part of my job and I've never missed getting there on time!

I read you shouldn't go above 255 or 265 max... Hmmmm

True.

That's why tire manufacturers provide specific rim width size requirements for every tire.
People have done it for years though...as long as the bulging side wall appeals to them. The odds aren't that high that hard cornering could potentially break the bead...... :hide:
I've seen people try to cram a 305's on our rims.
