My 2003 with a build date of 5/2002 plays MP3 CDS if that helps
My 2003 with a build date of 5/2002 plays MP3 CDS if that helps
Is that just in the head or also in the changer??? I ask cause I've never been able to get either to play a Mp3 disc, and mine was built 6/6/02...
There isn't anything in the owners manual saying either will play Mp3, in fact it states it is designed to play commercially pressed discs only...
2003 owners manual, see page 31...

My head unit is playing an MP3 CD my son burned for me earlier this year. I never checked the changer but I know the changer in his 98 F150 wont play them. MAybe Im just getting lucky, Im just passing on my information.
Yankee are you sure it's a Mp3 or just a std burned CD(those play OK in my unit)??? The radio must have a decoder to play the compressed Mp3 format, depending on length it's possible to have well over 200 songs on a Mp3 disc...

Ok maybe I am wrong, but how would I tell? Im not that tech savy, and I thought the MP3 was the format that was burned onto the disc? Am I wrong? Sorry if I caused any confusion...
You can look at it in your computer to see how large the files are but if the disc has less than 20-25 songs, it's probably a std CD format... Song files on a std CD are usually in the 30-40MB range each, whereas a Mp3 file for same song would be 3MB or less... Compression ratio for std CD vs Mp3 is roughly 15 to 1, with the Mp3 bit rate having a large effect on the amount of material that can be on a single disc...

for the measley 75.00 you need to do like the last owner of my 300A did he cut the face off the stock unit and it lays over the navi system if Iam in a area prone to thefts. I love it everyonce in a while I go downtown and after I park I pull the face outta the golve box and just lay it in the opening over the navi system besides you can get one of these radios from a s-yard for say 25.00-40.00// was over a buddys house a month ago till the we hours of the night the next morning he tells me the kids broke into his wifes car and 4-others on his street. Iam sure they looked in my window and saw the stocker and just went to the next one!!! HA,HA for me!

HEY,HEY Easy there I in no means wanted or intended to do that! My point was for you simply making a suggestion for youre possible well being as some ins co. wont cover something like navi if it isnot OEM or obly pay a fix amount of 250.00 to 350.00. and for that matter if I wanted to buy a OEM rad I would buy youres for 75.00 and keep it in the community. You can take that post as you like it dont matter to me. Been here since 02 and never thrashed anyone

I have a 2009 with the single CD stock setup, and while your unit has somewhat different controls than what is called the "Premium/Audiophile Satellite Compatible AM/FM Stereo Single CD/Cassette system" (also called in the 2009 Grand Marquis sales brochures, the optional "Dual Media" audio system, a $125 option on the new 2009/2010 cars)
but to order one from my Ford Mercury parts dealer, the price for one is $525 !!!! (yikes) yours looks like it would fit right in if I am willing to give up the text and "Satellite" features, (which I am, looking to be able to play some cassettes I have from a large collection),
I'll take the chance that it should work out, and look stock and fit right in the '09 dash. There is a good stereo shop that does all the Interceptors and fire trucks.
These last year Grand Marquis sedans are seriously decontented from previous years, lacking even foglights, the overhead console, rear air suspension, automatic parking brake release, and much more.
so,
I'll buy it. :)
It will go into a nice recipient, if it fits:

How would you like to be paid? (don't have pay pal just now)
send me a PM!
thanks
That radio will fit any '03-up Grand Marquis or Crown Vic as long as it isn't a police model that had just a radio or radio/tape without a CD(connector plugs are different on those)...

Got the new unit from you installed in the car today and it was a quick plug 'n' play. Less than 15 minutes and it was in !!!
It looks stock, plays AM/FM CD and cassettes and I figured out how to set the time on the clock.
LOOKS AND WORKS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT !!!!
Virtually identical to the $535 unit with the Sat and text features I don't need.
Thanks a million!!!!
