I thought my 04' MM had a limted slip/positraction rear end. Had it apart today and am wondering why does it call for friction modifier or LS oil if there are no clutches in there. With only spider gears and ring & pinion, isn't that just an open end carrier?

There should be a stack of clutch's at both ends of the big S-spring between the pinion gears and the housing if not you got hosed. Who did rear end work last?

yeah, behind the side gears in the carrier there are clutches on each side.

First time its been apart, as far as I know. Just moved up to 4:10's. Never could lay rubber so don't know if both tires spun. I don't see any clutches. Had the carrier on the bench and just spiders and ring gear. Did not buy it new, but only 1 year old with 16K on it from a salesman. I guess I will lay rubber on some smooth concrete somewhere(garage?) tomorrow and test it out.

Here is a 8.8 LS the clutches are between the two bigger gears and the case.
