Not sure if these cars have VSS gears or if it was switched to all-electronic, but if the VSS gear is busted, that could also be the issue...even if you have VSS signal.

2002 MY was the last year for VSS. If the speedo works in your car Dennis than it must be electrical problem. Fuse or pinched wire?

Is the low level steering assist working? How about the rear load leveler? If those three are out, it is the relay in the fuse box in teh engine compartment. I forget the number, but it controls all three..... Speedo/odometer, steering assist, and rear load leveler (pump).

With all the new undercover Chargers around my city, I do! All the LED wigwags aren't as easy to spot until they're right on ya... And they will bait you...

Measure resistance in all the wires in the cable to the tranny???

If the speed sensor output is there, seems problem would have to be between PCM and speedo...Did you check to see if the cruse control was operating???

Yup.

When my Air compressor went out and blew the fuse, it took the speedo with it.

The Marauder's speedo gets it's signal from the PCM, the PCM receives the vehicle speed info from the OSS (Output Shaft Speed Sensor).

Things to check if the speedo is inoperative:

Battery junction box - fuse #8 (30A)
Vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
Circuitry
Speedo
Instrument cluster printed circuit

MDRider88 had an issue with his not working and when it did it was all over the place. Found a wire shorting out on the passenger side kooks header. Removed/Rerouted the wire and problem was fixed. Explained why when he hit a bump the needle would jump all over the place, bump was making the wire move and come into contact with the header.

what he said. Your problem sounds just like mine. Check to see if any wires have been burned

Master tech in our shop says he's seen it on police cars, water in the harness where it dips below headlights. They opened the convolute aroun the harness and about a cup of water ran out. He seems to think its a corroded wire in there but hasn't been able to spend anymore time with it. They are doing it as a filler so they don't have to charge me by the hour, which I appreciate but...
Anyone that has fixed this?

Master tech was checking out my Marauder on his lunch hour, He was doing a visual at a couple of connections, looked at the grey with black stripe wire where it comes from the variable assist p/s module behind the glove box, went to speed control module near master cyl. tugged on wire at firewall near master and signal reappeared. Took it for a road test and speedo, VAPS, and cruise are all working again. Total cost to me= zero. :)

My car could break down and coast into his parking lot and I would push it back to Pennsylvania by myself before I'd let him touch mine again. You guys are on point.

Agreed. Nothing to be gained here by bashing on a thread that's over three years old.
