I have a MM-03 last 6 on VIN 612307 Assuming 300-A. I purchased it earlier this year 4-10 most of the top of the car has what I would call blistered paint (paint blistering up from the bare metal). When I purchased it, I thought it might have been from poor care, but have another buddy that has the same MM-03 and it has been garaged almost 100% of the time (of course, except when on road) and it has the starting effect of this.

My guess would of been that some chemical was on the bare metal and not cleaned properly prior to applying the primer!

Oh great ones, please enlighten me with what happened....

There is another thread on here about paint.
I have an 04 with the same problem. Now I have to decide if I just paint the roof or the whole car...

original owner ran into animal. drove it home. no external damage except one minor issue. Sheered off the end of the oil filter. by time got home, car lost all oil, but not knocking yet. couple days later took off, didnt see oil gauge I guess, but didnt stop till started knockin.... by then "It's tooo late!!!!"
thats it.... okay not funny, but it is what it is...

The paint problem has been around since the beginning. It started showing up on the early Black MMs around 2003. Some here have stated that the paint was either too thick or too thin when applied. Others had flecks in the paint from the lines not being cleaned out properly.

The problem is not limited too 300As or Black MMs. My '03 300B Blue MM started to exhibit the blistering after about 6 years. I suspect that heat and exposure to the sun is a contributing factor. Black absorbs heat the most. Next is the dark Blue. I suspect that the DTRs will start showing signs of blistering in another year or two. The Silver Birches will likely escape this problem because they are more reflective and don't retain/absorb heat as readily. JMHO.

Its always nice having someone who pays Attn in class:beatnik: yes all the above and some mainly 03 had severe problems but the 04's exhibit the same problem from time to time not many though, 04 were mainly caused during color changes and lines not flushed properly( 1 sec of cleaner -thinner) ran thru line system rather than the rule of 60 seconds. Any car now is out there all over the 6 yr in service warranty start date. Even though paint was 3yr/36,xxx you could complain enough and fill out a AWA (after warranty adjustment) sheet and maybe they would pay a portion but as with time that hasone away tobut even on a awa only up 6yr/75,xxx miles so yes were all on our own. after 1st of year mine is getting all taken apart and sriped and re-painted. from 10Ft away car looks great but up close my 03 is **** crows footing (3 angle small cracks) bubbles and dirt I have even done back in 03 warranty paint work due to some runs in paint. The big thing I saw with blue was coverage issues this specific color base coat has horrible coverage when applying takes 5-6 evenmore sometimes to blend base over say primer spots from a dent repair or sometype of repair... BLUE look at inner qtrs and under trunk lid it is transparent due to this in places you can see the sealer color thru the blue base coat dont even have to know what youre looking for, could type all day long and never cover all the issues. I Know I have been a painter my whole life (since 17) & managed a shop at large Ford dealer for 10yrs seen this problem to many times...

Yes, the trough around the trunk is very poor and down to the base in many spots. :(

Yeah it kinda sucks. Done several GT500 in blue with same problem yellow is also a horrible color for this problem to. You end up using alot more base coat for coverage then other colors. That is why certain paint co.s developed color primers for specific problem colors so you dont have to take as loan for enough basecoat to cover

03 MM paint sucks, and my dealer would not help me at all! Mercury did us wrong on this car's paint, period.

yes it is the pits but look at some chrysler problems there as bad or worse LOL if you found it in the warranty range 3 yr 36 you would have been ok. Ford before economy took a **** would at least do a AWA and pay a portion most manufacturers would even do that the black met on srt8 it just as bad frt and rear covers die back so bad there dull compared to rest of veh. IO had a guy once complain because the new frt cover I painted looked vso good verse thev rest of the veh. Not my problem Iam a Ford dealer not a crysler dealer no H in Crysler
