Ok it's not on my Marauder (this is the only section I could think of); but I need to remove my airbag in my '91 Mustang.

I need advise on a safe way of doing it.

I know to remove the battery cables (the negative anyway);
let it sit for awhile - I don't know how long that needs to be;
once the nuts are removed from the steering wheel
what next?
Is it really simple after that? I don't know what's behind there.
Then when putting it all back together, is there any safety precautions I need to take there?
I know not to sit infrom of it just in case.

Thanks everyone. This is one thing I have never done on a car before.

+1 on Google but let sit for 30 mins after all power source disconnected once youre ready you have a ignitor coild behind the wheel bag itself you will wsant to disconnect that also sit on the sill not in the seat most veh 2008 up have a weight sensor built into the seat pad or frame Heck on the 4th we get a bunch of used bags and set them off 9 volt batt and 2 wires it it face down they will fly 20ft in the air and make a hell of a bang. just becareful and catious.

Ok this is getting me nervous.

Maybe a Ford tech can chime in here.

It's, again, my '91 Mustang and my "Air Bag" ling on my dash flashes 6 times then pauses, then repeats this over and over again.
I really don't know if it's the bag or not.
I just really don't feel like spending the money on having this thing diagnosed on a 20 year old car.

Maybe someone might know what this "cycle" of flashes indicates.?.? Is it the bag; is it one of the sensors; the module?

I'll check the Ford shop manual for you shortly.

I'll check the Ford shop manual for you shortly.

Thanks.
It could be a 5 flash-pause-2 flash (if the 6 flash doesn't make scense).
I will double check that count when I get home from work today and report the "flashes".

you need to scan guage it & ck code but that if memory serves me is the ignitoir coil behind the bag and avg cost on Fords for that part is in the 150.00 range again usually. It is not difficult just make dam sure you give the system 30 min before anything & remove carefully or stupid horn contact switch will break.

It sounds like it could be the "clock spring" under the airbag. If you determine it is, let me know. I have one you can have. If the horn and the cruise are both out on it, I have been told that it is. I bought one on a hunch and sold the car before I used it. Its used and I cant say if it works or not, but from what I have been told, the wire breaks causing the code as well as inop cruise and horn. At least I know the wire is good on this one.....

....I mean....

uhhh....might not be worth fixing....sounds like you should sell the car, how much you want :D

When I got home from work I checked and it flashes 10 times then pauses.
(I could have sworn it was 5 but I guess not - unless it does only sometimes).

P.S. The cruise and horn still function.

Oh boy...:mad2:
this is starting to look like it's beyond my realm of capabilities at home.

I'm also waiting for even more confirmation from another member (fastblackmerc) on this.

clockspring, ignitor coil are the same thing, and yes it is the wire that breaks it moves with the steering wheel so it wears out over time. seen it a million times!

UH yeah flat rate! youre dam lucky I do this for a living keep doing it and youll get one right in the face seen it happen many times. No offense but who would take a SRS part out while the system is armed :shake: Its not flat rate its called the dealer or service shop doesnt want to buy you a 850.00 airbag

i do it for a living too and it does not bother me a bit. you'd have to somehow put power and ground to the bag to set it off and what are the chances of that unless the srs module is bad and even than i dont see it happening. you have to have a bunch of variables set before it will even allow the airbags to deploy. but just do it however you feel safe about it.

Check the air bag light again.

If there is a problem with the air bag system the air bag light will flash a code.

This is known as the LFC (Lamp Fault Code).

The code is 2 digits.

The 1st digit is flashed with a .5 second interval between pulses.

There is a 2 second pause before the 2nd digit is flashed which also has a .5 second interval between pulses.

There is a 5 second pause between each display of an LFC.

Each LFC is flashed 3 times after which the air bag light will remain on for the remainder of the key-on cycle.

If there are multiple LFC's each LFC will flash in order of priority.
