i remember years ago when i had my vic there was some guy on this forum that was going to make an after market steel hood for the marauder. i can not find the post anymore. anyone remember what happened to that guy or that project?
Forgot the company for fiberglass.
There is one hood in Florida that was steel but that was a one time deal.

no there was a guy taking preorders for a custom steel hood. it was started on this forum and worked its way over to the vic side. that's how i found out about it. he had a few concepts drawn up. nobody remembers?

I plan on making my own hood. It will be 100% custom I already got a used Hood to work on it will probably take 1-2 used hood before I get it right (alot of fabrication) A guy couldnt make a living doing something like this alot of man hours. I plan the hood to remain much as it does just the rise in the middle will be slightly higher then it is now.Very similar to the Turbo Marauder on the board

That thread then evolved into this one
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=29165
Then it all ended like this.
sorry everyone
It has not broke 10 orders Start to expect your refunds after the 15th of Oct unless something changes.
If you want to try something else I am open to suggestions
After the original vendor backed out, Reinheart steped in and that ended like this.
I have called three companies and they will no commit and I do not blame them unless we can get a committed group to this why would any company invest over a 1000 in a mold for a few sales, this is the issue we are having now trying to get a hood for Tod's car
Tod's car is the one that has the one off custom steel hood.
One of the main reasons the group buy failed is because people were divided between pure looks and functionality. Some wanted functional heat removal, some wanted more hood clearance, and others just wanted their car to look more aggressive. I wonder if this would have a better shot now since there is a standard cowl on the market. We can focus our efforts more specifically on appearance now. Not only that, but it seems like this forum is more active now than it was then.

well i'll be honest i really love the cobra model. the dual scoop looks too much like the challengers. keep it under 450 and i would prefer steel and i'm all in. just tell me who to pay.

I'd still like to get a Cobra styled heat extractor hood made for my MM but the cowl hood from Class Glass will do fine for now.

If anyone wanted to give reorganizing this a second try, the company does still exist with a different website now.
http://www.championhoodsandproducts.c om/
This is what I am thinking!
If we can get the orders up to 20 hoods, The cost of those hoods will be $375.00, $300.00 + $75.00 deposit
(This will be the price for those who leave a deposit!)
For the rest of you who wants to wait and see the finished product. the cost will be $475.00.
I believe this is fare because the first group is helping me with the cost of the mold.
Do you think we could get enough interest for 20 orders? I would expect the price to be a little higher now since the price for almost everything has gone up since 2006.

My stock hood is aluminum.

at this point they would probably want a commitment of 30. but even then it's still worth it in my opinion.

has the design been finalized?
russell072009
11-04-2010, 11:00 AM
apparently that was the issue before. there were 2 designs and nobody could agree on which to buy. personally i would go to vendors myself to get the cobra r hood made. as far as functional or not which was apparently the other issue... most fiberglass hoods its up to you. either cut out the holes or don't.
this is what i would like to push for

i think if we can get 40 to commit, 10 to place refundable deposits with a rough idea on a price ( i figure $400 or so ) i don't see why we couldn't get a prototype made so we can see what we're buying then take the remaining deposits and have production begin. there will always be a few that will back out because it's not what they want but at that point we can bring it to crownvic.net and other forums to fill the difference.

I'd be interested if a big whipple will fit under it.

I really like the look of the Class Glass hoods. I'm wondering if there is a functional one..like ram induction type .and if this would be a good idea???

Class Glass hood does function like a cowl hood, air does get sucked in through the mesh vents on the back of the hood when the car is in motion, also it allows heat to escape easier.
It would be easier to do a true cold air intake setup than to do a ram air which then you'd have to mod the intake to mate with the hood vents.
russell072009

from what i know about it, ram air is a marketing ploy. it does work, kind of. you will never be able to get most street cars up to a speed where it would really do any good. it might net you a horse or two but that's only because its basically a CAI. in my eyes it's not enough to justify the cost. a nice cold air kit will do the same thing and cost almost nothing in comparison. mostly it's for looks and bragging rights. i looked in to adding the SRT-8 sealed ram air setup on my 06 daytona but it would have only bought me 2 HP to the ground at a cost of over $2000.

Very understandable I just have always never liked any aftermarket hoods! Only one I ever cared for were the fiberglass with very slight cowl raise say like 1-1 1/2 inch raise other than that always stuck to OE hoods.

I like the looks of that cobra r one or maybe one that looks like a gt500 kr would be nice but would have to have an artist rendering first

This could possibly work if it was opened up to other forums for CV and GM owners. I remember the original thread about this and was interested but like others have said, it seemed to stall when it came to style.
I say just offer one style and try again. If that part of the discussion is out of the equation, maybe this could come closer to fruition than before.
