Okay, before I get started, yes, I did do a search on this topic and I came up nada.

Has anyone out here entertained the idea of a 5.4 DOHC swap in their Marauder?

If so or if it has been done, please let me know how much detail I'm looking at.

Thank you very much! -j

Top deck of the 5.4 is higher than a 4.6, the hood won't close without substantial modifications to it.

Cool. This is the information I need to gather. Thanks!!!!!!

Zack did a V-10 swap a couple years ago...

Better off just doing a s/c kit and call it a day which would be cheaper and the 5.4L NA unless it's the Cobra R motor doesn't offer that much more power, probably 340-350rwhp range if that.

Go for it!

I'd like to see that swap...but a tall deck 5.4 with w-i-d-e 4V DOHC heads is going to be a challenge if you want to keep the HVAC system.

Do it I would love to see it and it would be nice to see something different. Seems a lot of the CV guys do a 5.4 SOHC swap but not any DOHC that I've seen. For the height difference the links below can help but not a hole lot you can do about the width but make the car fit the engine.

Sullivans performance has a stand alone fuel injection intake manifold http://www.sullivanperformance.com/yvs450/products/fuelinjection/fuelinjection.htm

MMR also has some nice 5.4 DOHC intake productshttp://www.modularmustangracing.com/

You might want to look into the new 5.0 engine. If you go alternativeauto.com I think they mention the benefits of putting it in the marauder over the 5.4.

You might be thinking of making the current motor a 5.0. . .

:D What he said! Lidio @ alternative has written about boring and stroking a 4.6 block to a 5.0 as well as a 5.3 version. Swapping a Coyote 5.0 would be doable too, but there would be more to it than just dropping it in, with the twin variable cam timing the PCM would be needed to be swapped as well as the harness.

I am setting my car up with this swap in mind.

2 things:
1) the brake booster will hit the valve cover on the driver's side.
2) the A/C evaporator/box will hit the motor on the pass. side.

As far as engine height:

since the MM uses a K/X-member, it is possible to shim the K/X-member down so that the motor is sitting lower. This is how the mustang guys do it with their K-members.
Of course this will change the suspension geometry slightly, so keep this in mind.

Since the 5.4 DOHC is a cast iron block, it seems to make more sense to use a Boss5.0 big bore 4.6 block, add a stroker crank, and have a 5.3 DOHC with the same external dimensions as the 4.6. The Boss5.0 block is cast iron so the weight would be very comparable to the 5.4 DOHC

^^^ so true.
The one drawback of the cheap 5.4 blocks is their weight.

Now Ford GT block machined to accept a wet-sump oil pump would be great, but the cost is astronomical.

Thank you everyone for ALL your help!!! You've definitely given me a lot to chew on. The reason for the 5.4 (and it would be an aluminum block) was for the displacement to help develop higher torque levels, but the constraints are what I need to know, i.e., brake booster, HVAC, deck height, etc. Does anyone know of a site that will give me the full dimensions of a full accessorized 5.4 DOHC? Here's what I'm thinking. Mock up the full 5.4 engine, pull the existing mill, and slip the "fake" engine in to start studying what is needed. Also, what do you guys think about bored and stroked motors? Like the 5.3? I feel they run hotter. Please shine some insight. Thanks again everyone!!!!!

I'm not sure if any site exists, I don't think anyone has pulled this one off yet.

The choice of intake manifold is going to affect the height of the installed motor. Stock Navi is way too tall, Boss 290 is extremely expensive, adaptor plates can leak, etc.

What some guys do is use a stock Navi lower, and then fab an upper to match it.

If you have an aluminum 5.4 block, that would be pretty sick.....

Although my buddy has a big-bore stroker, and it is a 5.3., that's nice also to keep the 4.6 because when we plumb the turbo it gives us more room.

You will need to fit a HydroBoost from a mustang in the Marauder ...ready for that headache?

If you really want to go for it...just buy a 2011 GT500 engine.

1: Plasma-spray bore, wet sump aluminum block with starter mounts (-102 lbs vs C.I. & 8 lbs lighter than the GT aluminum block)
2: Best flowing DOHC cylinder heads
3: Boost friendly CR

and the best reason why:

4: It's already got a blower on it!

I'd go with the 5.0 before the GT500 only because there is a proven combo to get it in 11's, 10's and 9's without breaking the bank to start with the purchase of the car.

Agreed...plus the new 5.0 fits...easily.

I'd just like to see someone else complete the 5.4 DOHC swap.

I am running a Boss50 iron big bore stroker and daily drive the beast. In regards to the heat issues no issues sitting in traffic in 110+ degree weather in NorCal. As far as fit-ment she looks stock; she runs exactly like she was stock other than the 100+rwhp and 130rwtq over the 4.6.

The nice thing about going big bore is you can swap everything over plug n play vs the 5.4. If you want to go bigger I would highly recommend going big bore stroker.

No I meant that I'd go with the whole car not just a swap.

If I had the money......Shelby GT500 all the way!

750-> 800 HP with a few bolt-ons and a tune.

It's also 300 pounds lighter and $12k cheaper. But a 5.4 would be awesome. :cool4:

How much of a headache would that be? I know Paul Erlandson swapped the hydroboost on to a '64 Mercury Meteor. I spoke to him about the swap last year at WWDC briefly. I didn't get the details about the whole swap, but he said that it went much easier than he anticipated.

Zack, have you had any experience with the system? Anyone else either for that matter. I would love more info on this for future reference.

This is great!!! I never expected so much input!!!

The reason for the 5.4 DOHC is because I have a definite on a '10 Shelby GT-500 motor, from top to bottom, very inexpensive and only 1300 miles.

If it falls through, it's great to know I have wonderful options. 5.0 Coyote, 5.3 stroker, V10 (Now that would be neat to see with a couple of turbos.), the 4.6 Aluminator (no one mentioned that crate motor), and everything else in between.

Thanks everyone! I really do appreciate all of this!!!!

The Aluminator swap has been done before. I know tjl006 has done it.
