I always forget to write/ask about this but one thing that I do not understand is why our cars to not have a indicator light showing the cruise control is engaged. Is this the same for the 03's as well? Or, do I have a burned out bulb in my dash?

No cruise light in my '03. That's one of the VERY few things I miss from my Mitsubishi when I traded it for this car. :(

I don't have an indicator. Back around the time I first got the car I was on the Interstate, had it set on 60 but was running...uh...more than that. I saw my exit and took it, it was a downward turn off the ramp. So I figure I'll let off the gas and coast down to the 35 or 45 whatever it was and hang the corner. Forgot the cruise was on and didn't hit the brakes. So instead of coasting and dropping speed, right as the turn starts and my speed drops down, it lunges to maintain the 60 I had it set at and me like an idiot stomps on the brakes. Talk about an "oh crap" moment. I fishtailed all the way down that damn ramp. It broke me from using the cruise control, I don't know that a light would have helped or not, never really thought about it until you posted the question. I guess I'd rather me be in control of the car than the car be in control of the car as far as speeds go.

same thing on my Cobra, no CC indicator. Not a big deal really.

We have cruise control??? ;) I don't use it ..... very often at all. Maybe 3 times in the past 7 years. :P

I use my cruise control everyday on the way to work. I definitely forget it is on sometimes and have done something similar to CBT's story above!

A 53 year old man that can't remember if he turned on his cruse control while maintaining speed down the highway and not using his feet is just sad.

am I the only one who does a brake check before leaving the freeway? Forgetting the CC is on in the first place is kinda crazy since your right foot has just been idle, but be that as it may, if you just make it a practice to check your brakes before the exit, there shouldn't be any problems.

I just set it and make a drink and let the car drive itself!:D

Definitely learned to do a brake check before getting off exits in the MM. Not realizing it's on at a most inopportune time can be a lil scary.

Yeah...no light on the Marauders

I can see that as an issue if you had it on other vehicles. My truck had cruise control and never had a light for it. I guess I am used to no light and a lotta city driving. In the years of legal driving I'd had two vehicles and still drive them to the bone. ;)

+1! I am almost 28 and this happened a couple years ago. Sorry, nobody's perfect

Sounds like an even lower level of sadness. By the time you are 53 you may want to go out and get you one of those Mercedes that wake you up when you fall asleep. Or just quit operating motor vehicles all together for the safety of others.

I must be the only one here who uses the off button on the cruise control. For me, the light is not needed. I go by the gas pedal staying in one place when the cruise is on. This, however, does not work on drive by wire vehicles.

Check back with me in 13 years, I'll let you know how it goes.

LOL I've had a issue once when using cruse, that was because my foot had fallen asleep and I hit the brake too hard(but was after I'd hit the accelerator)... That happened with my first T-Bird Turbo Coupe, over 14 years ago...

I too use the off button quite frequently, if I'm coming to a off ramp or getting close to another vehicle and not able to pass, I just turn it off...

On the drive by wire, the pedal returns to normal rest position and the car will not accelerate till the pedal is pressed past the point that is maintaining current speed... They will hold speed down hill though, once speed climbs maybe 5mph, the transmission will downshift to 2nd and hold till the speed is reduced to the set speed...

No, you're not. I always tap the brakes, not normally to kill the cruise (just a side benefit), but to make sure I have working brakes before I commit to the exit ramp. Been a habit (good or bad) for me for years.

Started doing this a very long time ago when water got in the drums (that should give you and idea how long ago...) on the highway and froze. No brakes. Sorta exciting for a 16 year old...

I too can't understand not knowing whether you have cruise on or not. The only reason I'd prefer a light on my dash is to know it actually engaged in the first place (I've had my cruise control hang sometimes when I try to engage it, then as if it just wakes up all the sudden it nearly punches it to try to make it back to the set speed as fast as possible. NOT cool around traffic cops when you are trying to obey the rules of the road.)

To me whether you are in cruise or not follows the same function as knowing what gear you're in, standard trans or not. You wouldn't look down at your shifter to see, would you? You just keep track in your head as part of your task of driving properly and driving well.

Well I do see the need for a "light" on the dash for CC? Now the big motorcoach I drive has one but then again that a $495,000. vehicle :)

With all this talk about a Cruise indicator light now is the time to add one. The servo has the output for it ya know.

Yes I miss having a cruise control "on" legend.

The wife's Grand Marquis has an indicator, "cruise control on".

The crown vic's that I drive from the Sheriff's department have a small illuminated dial legend that illuminates with a polnter indicating the set speed.

I've often wondered about that too, Jim.

Another irk is the turn signal blinker size and too faint audio.

I laughed when I saw this thread as I started a thread like this about 6 or 7 years ago and I got called some names and basically got tongue lashed for wanting a jap car feature, you know like real men do not need no stinking cc indicator. Nice to see we are more user friendly now a days. OBTW I wish it had cruise light on the MM as my 05 Sport trac does it and it comes in handy.

After reading this thread yesterday I checked my '07 MGM and it does have a lighted cruse indicator in the cluster...

Yeah I had to check, never pay any attention to those light and dials, they just slow me down... ;)

Wow, you actually remembered to come back and check this thread out.

WARNING: Long term membership and excessive use of MM.net can cause short term memory loss and the inability to know what your feet are doing. In most cases memory loss is only experienced while using cruse control.

My Town Cars have it, and some Grand Marquis do too maybe just digital dash ones
