Any of you "shadetree mechanics" out there can give me an idea why my check engine light suddenly came on while driving ????!!! Drove approx. 20 miles coming home with it on & the car doesn't give me any indication of anything wrong other than the light being on. So any of you out there in MM land have had a similar problem like this , please give me your diagnosis. Thanks:beer:

If you don't have a scan gauge or other instrument to read your OBD, then take your car to an auto parts store and ask them if they can read it for you. That should tell you a code of what is wrong for you to investigate that for fix'in.

thanks Marauderman for your reply, I think in this area autozone does a free diagnosis, damn computerized cars today, your at their mercy. Take me back to the days when I was able to tune all the cars I had back then, no problem !

check your gas cap first.

If you get a code P1451, It may be a frayed wire in the back under the EVAp tray under the trunk. Thats what it turned out to be in both my Marauder AND my sons F150.
But of course thats only a P1451 that I know about, could be any number of things.
Good Luck!!

thanks to all of you for the feedback, I already checked the gas cap. the MM manual even says it could be an emission issue, or water in the gas tank, or even the wrong gas. I usually fill her up with shell but yesterday I topped off with Gulf, only because the station was closer, hmmm might have been a bad choice . The next fill up will be with Shell & see if it does make a difference, but with my Irish Luck, it probably won't be the right fix.
