How much of a shot are you looking to spray?

Stock engine and how many miles? Installing yourself? You can find really good complete kits slightly used for around 500 to 800+. Depending on extra goodies like blow down tube (for the drag strip), warmer, remote opener, etc.
Safe bet on stock engine would be: 100 to 125 Shot, wet, pull 2 to 4 deg timing on the bubbly. Get a fuel pressure shutoff switch too. They're around $40 new and will shut off the N2O if the pressure drops in the fuel line. Bottle warmer is a must imho.

Totally safe and nitrous are tough to use together.
As soon as you add 100+ horsepower, your risk is higher that you can/will break.
The install costs is going to depend on how many accessories you want too.
ie.
bottle opener, heater blanket, twin bottles? ect.
