View Full Version : LED lights?
Hey I was thinking of going LED lights in my interior. See the light above and behind my passenger door? It just looks too yellowish to me. Anyone done LED's other than the dash? Thanks.

I see you have Direct Vent Injection...

Yeah, the fumes are tolerable but it's the heat off the engine making my beer go warm that's really annoying.

Easy to replace all of the interior lights. Just have to source the LEDs.

I converted all of my lights to led. I used some store bought leds for the foot wells and for the back reading lights but for the upper console I used a combination of store bought and discrete leds. I got some really bright Nichicons and covered the whole inside of the light with foil tape. I think it worked great.

Cool! Looks like it throws a nice even shade inside!

I went led for the gauges too. I removed the stock lamps. Then I drilled three holes into the gauge body. I ground the led lens flat then hit them with some rough sandpaper to help diffuse the light. I think they look way better than stock.

Dude, that is BRITE, love it, especially the shifter plate.

Shifter plate is still stock bulbs. I have another cluster that I was trying to light with led but it is much harder to do. The Marauder in red is especially hard to get bright. I think it's because the light pipes in the speedo and tach are designed around the way a light bulb radiates light but led's are so more directional that the lighting ends up uneven.

Mine are nowhere near that bright green on the shift plate, not even close. Trade? :D

I converted my dome lights and footwells and trunk to LED; I used the high power kind, off ebay. Cheaper than any website - I put LEDs in all my cars, previously bought all of them from superbrightleds.com, spent like 120 bucks to do the Excursion... The marauder cost me 20 bucks and have a few spare bulbs still. The ones I want to do next are the mirror visors, found some - on superbrightleds - that seems like they will fit nicely in there.
Only worry I have is that the lights dim slowly when they go off, I'm not sure how good/bad that is for the LEDs. I'll post some pics tonight when I get home. I wish there was a way to get rid of the stupid green... with 3 fords, it gets boring fast...

What is the best way to remove lens covers on overhead console? I have a 300A with 2 front map lights and Dome light toward back of console. I changed the dome ligt pretty easy by popping the lens cover off enough to get my fingers up in there. The map lights are harder to put back in cover. Any suggestions???
Thanks

Chris, You have to remove the overhead console to get to the bulbs.
Remove the screw in the front of the console.
Open the sunglass holder and remove those two screws.
This is the hard part...... pull down on the console, it's held in by clips.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the front of the console.
You will be able to get the front map light bulbs by twisting the sockets about 1.4 turn.

No kidding. I weigh ~210 lbs and pretty much had to lift myself out of the seat holding onto the damn console. Those clips are vicious!

You can't do that with the full length 2003 overhead console.

The car? black. The LEDs are cool white, or whatever came off ebay. I want to say it was these ones for the footwells and under hood light ( http://cgi.ebay.com/2-x-194-168-T10-25-SMD-White-High-Power-LED-Bulb-Light-/190523689248?pt=LH_DefaultDoma in_0&hash=item2c5c18c920#ht_3229wt_ 905 ), as I have a message in my ebay acct asking about them, but I'm not sure if I ended up ordering from this particular seller or not, as these seem way higher priced than what I paid...
And something like this for the dome lights (don't remember exact measurement, if it was 36 or 42, I want to say 42, I just remember that they were the 9 LED kind) : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2x-Dome-9-SMD-LED-Bulb-Light-Interior-Festoon-Lamp-42mm-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem23 101348ddQQitemZ150593554653QQp tZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fParts Q5fAccessories#ht_3119wt_1165

The 2004 short console is just held up with clips.
This is several months after the fact, but on MY October 31, 2003 built 2004 Grand Marquis LS Ultimate with the factory short overhead console, there was a screw at the front edge into the windshield header.
The Ford/HELM shop manual said to just yank the console down, but I looked a little closer and noticed the screw at the front. That saved a lot of nasty language when I switched to the 2003 "long" overhead console.
