its time for me to put a bigger gear in my 04 MM. I'm looking at either 3.73 or a 4.10. I dont do much interstate driving and dont drive the car but a handfull of times a month. I'm leaning towards the 4.10. What do you guys think?:thanks:

I have stock 3.55 but I can tell you right now, from seeing what everyone has said, people are going to chime in and tell you the 3.73 are a waste of time and to just go 4.10's. Especially seeing as how you don't do much highway.

4.10's won't make a big difference driving on the highway, I do it all the time.

Just do the 4.10's.

4.10's I have them and If I drive the Marauder on my daily commute it's 25 mile's of freeway. While I'm not saying I drive 80 mph I'm just saying 80 mph would be theoretically fine for me:rolleyes:.

Go for 4.10s. I do 70% of my driving on the highway and noticed about 1-2mpg loss but I also am going between 55-80mph with romps here and there. lol

Search and you'll find tons of info on this question, but here's my input:

Going to 3.73 is only a 5% difference, which will be practically unnoticeable, especially for the cost (unless you can do it all yourself). 4.10 is a 15% difference for the same cost and has been proven over and over to be a good balance between improved performance and minimal impact on fuel economy.

(unless you can do it all yourself)

Most people can't do it themselves becase to do it correctly there is a Ford tool that is invaluable in doing it and most folks don't want to fork over the coinage to buy it.

4.10's all day, most of my driving is on the highway and I cruise at 80 with no problem. Just make sure who ever installs them knows what they are doing.

I'm leaning towards the 4.10.

Then you are leaning in the same direction as a lot of the folks here. :D

Thanks for all of the input guys. You have mad my decision much easier. I have the knowledge (10 years of Mini Truckin) to do a gear just not the proper tools and I always struggle with the backlash

Yup, and that can be an issue.

Find yourself a good performance shop, ideally somebody familar with Ford 8.8 rear ends.
