big time problem .,help

i need to replace/ have my rear axels rebuild, no doubt, to save the money i got a complete rear end that was good and begun to install it, i noticed now, that my sterering wheel will not lock, and the axel you can spin freely with your hand and it does not turn the shaft, while hooked up, the bad thing is that it came out a marauder that was runnung ok, what could be wrong:mad2:.

First, the steering wheel never did lock.

Second, are both wheels off the ground on the rear end? Put one on the ground or have someone hold it from rotating and turn the other wheel, the driveshaft should turn.
