Ok...installed aero turbines and deleted the rear cats on my MGM a couple of months ago...running stock-CVPI H pipe, sounded awesome but wanted it abit louder and more aggressive sound...just had 2 1/2" pipe from manifolds back, Magnaflow metallic high flow cats, x-pipe...retained aeros and 2" tailpipes for some BP restriction....Well things changed...got Louder/aggressive-Good....but kinda sounds like ass at times! Has a nice growl when revving but when driving upon acceleration its good but just before each shift it has this Droney-godawful cackle! like when you rev out a glasspack wondering if perhaps i should go back to an H...but dont think that will help... i think that now that i have alot more flow those straight thru aeros are just not sounding good, ...maybe need a chambered muffler... i.e. flowmaster type Any suggestions are welcome?

I have never listened to aeros in person but by reading your post I can tell you the x-pipe made the drone happen. Some mufflers sound good with the x-pipe and some don't. I got to say that magnaflows are perfect, they won't make your car sound faster than it really is.

I like Borlas, they make it sound mild...

i must state i loved the aeros before i did the latest work...rear cat delete, stock pipes w/H sounded good and aggresive with not much done to the car, no drone and definately not that cackle!...just found myself squeezing it to hear the exhaust more so i wanted the same sound only little louder...unfortunately it changed for the worse...now i gotta figure out my next move...not gonna undo all that exhaust work!

Agreed, that's why I stayed H against my exhaust guys wishes since he was recommending X.

if you used a Magnaflow x-pipe...then thats part of it, they are very poorly designed & tend to have odd sounds

also...get rid of that 2" junk

a proper merge x-pipe has a unique sound...those are the ones i like to make

heres the one i made for my father's Regal drag car...its sounds awesome

another one i made for a BMW Z3 as a resonator delete

Aeros can tend to pop & crackle (some love it, like me) but it sounds like you may want to switch mufflers...consider some 1-chamber mufflers, they loud but should keep some of the cackling down http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FULL-BOAR-Flow-Deflector-1-chamber-RACE-muffler-2-5-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5d 2aa6126fQQitemZ400147485295QQp tZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fParts Q5fAccessories#ht_773wt_786

this is exactly what i said when i first put my headers on and deleted my rear cats as well. i just got used to it and kinda like it. i wish i had an on off switch though some times.

i was thinking that may be the quickest/easiest/cheapest to start with is to put an H back in place of the X but the more i thought about it the aero muffler with its straight through design is really a glorified glasspack and ive had enough glasspacks on my old cars to recognize the cackle that i speak of and it is similar to an old burned out Glasspack and it raps and barks when you squeeze it? just not sure what muffler i would change to? 4.6 2v with 2.5" pipe and an X w/ flows should sound like an knarly older 96-04 mustang? little hesitant to do that as well cause dont want to end up with a MONSTER drone!

Be careful. I recently changed the X in Phoebe back to an H and replaced the Magnaflows with Flowmaster 50s. It definitely sounds more aggressive and lowered the tone a good bit, but now it drones too much. I'm going to try adding the dampeners mentioned in another thread and will report back.

Before anyone says "Flowmasters suck", I have 40s on The Blackbird and it doesn't drone at all. The only difference is that I had the exhaust tech reinstall the factory dampeners...unfortunately Phoebe's previous owner must have discarded them.

Can you get a picture of your x-pipe? Malibuguy might be able to tell if you if that is the issue or not. He knows his stuff, he spent hours and hours doing my exhaust system and a few other members exhaust systems.

Get a pair of CV dampers from a junk yard or order new....night 'n day difference on my Magnaflow system!!!:bows:

i have the dampners from the CV H pipe...didnt put them on the new system....your talking about the counterweight looking things that bolt to the flange between the down pipes and the H section on the stock system yes? what will that do for me?

try out the DynoMax VT muffler...i've installed a few of them with pleasing results, they have almost no interior noise when cruising
