I started the Marauder yesterday and the check engine light staid on all day. So I pulled the codes and cleared them.
P0316 Engine misfire detected on startup (first 1000 revs)
P0308 Fault Cylinder H-Misfire Detected (Cylinder 8)
The codes did not re-apper today.
So what might be my problem and how should I correct the misfire?
Thanks,
Dustin

First - new plugs.
Second - new boots
Third - new COP
Miles, Service History?

103,000 miles or so on the car now. Just did the plugs myself a few weeks ago. Got the Autolite Iridiums.
I did not replace the boots or the cops.

Check your COP connections (electrical harness plug into the COP).
If it doesn't happen again I wouldn't worry about it.

As for the other one...

The P0000 just means the OBD monitors have not been run. Always pops up when codes are cleared from the pcm. That code will clear itself when all the monitors read "Ready" or "Test Complete"

I have a question, what is the best bang for your buck when it comes to OBD handheld meters. I want to buy one , but a good one. I would like to clear codes and kind of have it dummy proof, that is "tells you what the problem is and the code". Also real time run conditions, temp, rpm etc. And maybe up-datable for the newer coming years? :help:

You talking big bucks. I'd get one at a FLAPS for under $100.00 and look up the codes on the internet.

I bought one from Sears. It reads and clears codes, it can even do a little datalogging. The best part about it was that it displays the code and what it is without having to reffer to the book. It was around $100 a few years ago.

...or the coolant temp sensor (or wiring) for the PCM is bad.

No it doesn't. Just shows you the code and give you the option to clear the code(s). He says in his best Marauderjack impression.....

Hey fastblackmerc, good impression , I even caught that southern accent. Well thanks for the answer, so here's another for anyone who reads this. the Carmd they advertise on tv, it will tell you the code, what the problem is & how much it will cost. so does anyone know about this product & would it be better to buy this or the scan gauge ll. I like the features of the scan gauge ll, many more than the carmd, also the carmd doesn't clear the code, as the scan gauge ll does. Decisions, decisions, thanks again for your input !

So other than the usual fuel filter change check engine light and the codes in my first post above that did not re-appear, I've not had problems with the check ending light coming on.
I'm now at 126,600 miles. Car has always ran good. With my blend door actuator problem, I had decided to have a mechanic do it. Don't want to sweat through the warmer weather coming up. And since I haven't trusted anything major with the Marauder to anything other than a dealer, I took it to the dealer. They got the blend door actuator done but they said that as they pulled the car out of the bay the check engine light came on. They said it was a misfire in cylinder 7. They cleared the code and the code reappeared. So we agreed to try replacing the COP. COP replaced but still throwing that code. So they say its got low compression in cylinder 7. They are going to take a closer look at it tomorrow. I'm hoping its not bad news but if it is I'll probably just have to fork out the $$ to get it fixed.

They are recommending to remove the valve cover to look at the head. What should I expect they will find?

OK, so they called and said its probably a valve seat issue. They said I might be looking at needing a new head. They won't know until they have it apart and confirm the problem.

OK, so I got the call back from the Ford Dealership. They are going to send the Cylinder Head to a machine shop to test the head for possible repair or replacement. Either way, its going to be pricey. Guess I'll be driving the Crown Vic more for awhile until the Marauder is running tip top again.
I always wonder though if its a good coincidence that this happened at the dealership versus a breakdown on the road or if its maybe too coincidental (you know what I mean?).
Valve seat issue sounds right. If u need the head i can order u one for way cheaper than they can because i work for a ford dealership. Just let me know. I can also do the work for u and save u some big money

I've been happy with my dashdaq. Kinda geeky, but very versatile. Always secretly dataloging in a loop, so if you have trouble hit 'log' It goes back in time to the beginning of it's buffer and writes it to a file.
For example it might start logging 33 seconds before you hit the button. :)
May have already found long standing problem with power mysteriously dropping on hard turns occationally. Turns out it's fuel pressure. But why...
Review coming soon BTW.

I would like to hold onto more of my money, but they got it enough apart that I'm not sure its a good idea to take it out of thier hands at this point. If they do say that the head can't be repaired and needs to be replaced, I'll ask if they would allow me to have you order it to save me some money. But time is important as I was hoping to take it to Fabulous Fords car show and that is coming up fast.
Okay just let me know. It takes a day or so to get the head. And its and oem replacment.

Wow I must have missed this thread. Which dealer do you have it at? Reason being MC GOOCH had his at the Livermore dealer and they said it needed a new motor; it didn't. Others (mustang site) have reported back similar stories dunno. Anyway hope it all works out in time for Knotts.

No, I didn't take it to Livermore auto mall. I never got a good feeling about those guys. I go to your neck of the woods.

OK, so the dealership is now recommending just replacing the head with a new one. They said according to a service bulletin Ford doesn't recommend repairing these heads (maybe because they are aluminum? my guess). They hope to have it by Thursday and have my car finished on Saturday.

Last time I replaced the spark plugs (maybe a year or so ago), I noticed one plug (the last rear one on driver side) was very tight for the spark plug. Does that mean that the stealership may have rethreaded that one? Last time I think the plugs were replaced previously was with the cylinder head that the Stealership replaced (back in 2012).
