This by far is the worst rear end failure I have ever seen, the car belongs to a young guy in Jacksonville, the car was at a transmission shop for 8 months, the car had to be jacked up and pushed in on the lift, when you look at the photos you can see brand new seals, I do not think they put oil in it, but there is no way you could not have known there was a severe issues, there was no teeth left on the pinion gear. So we are waiting on parts.

Yep, the differential and gears....or what's left of them...are bone dry!
The driver was driving for a while making a lot of noise to do that!
Yep again....that rear end would have been howling for some time if it was that low on gear oil.
I had the rearend in my '96 Blazer go out shortly after Chevy had rebuilt it under warranty...
It started to make more and more noise...even passengers would ask what the noise was from.
When I took it back to the Chevy Service Dept. they told me that it was very low on gear oil and the oil smelled burnt.
I told them: "that they were the last ones to touch it...and that was when they were rebuilding it not too long ago."

No gears were installed, this was as stock 3:55 but some one for sure had been in there, as I said look at the seals they do not even have dirt on them. We are rebuilding the entire rear end and installing 4:10's

wow. The rear cover looks like it has gunshots fired through it. Something broke with enough force to make those holes that let all of the oil out.
Almost as "flabbergasting" as waiting 8 months for a transmission shop to do something -- even more amazing. You may want to change the oil for him too Dennis!
