So since it has been getting really cold as of late I've started to notice a small oil spot on my garage floor after driving my MM.
I was talking with DOOM the other day about it and he mentioned something about some gasket or seal in the oil filter area that leaks only when it's cold.
Anyone know about this or what the fix is?

Is it possible that when the last oil filter was removed that the gasket from that oil filter came off the filter and satyed in place

hes prolly talking about where the oil filter adapter bolts to the block. i believe there a seal of some sort there, not sure if its a set of orings or a gasket.

Its a gasket, several of us including myself have replaced them. It's not a bad job at all.

If that happens there is usually about 6 quarts of oil on the floor.

A good job to do during your next oil change.

Yeah that's it!
Got a part number for the gasket? Would I need new bolts or just a gasket?

Oh the mess it made on my garage floor. :(
It's not that bad of a job. I had to do the same thing on my 95 CV P71 6 years ago and I reused my old bolts. The MM should be easier since there are no cooler lines like the P71. Great time to do it is your next oil change. I gotta do the same thing to my 96 Impala cuz she's leaking like hell.

Yeah Chris, I just had to replace the oil filter adapter plate gasket last Friday. It was leaking bad..I checked my oil one day, and it was two quarts low. I was going to do it my self, but you have to drain the Antifreeze and I did not feel like "Burping" the system after just doing it in July. I took it to Second Maryland Rebel dealership "Tom" and he took vary good care of me.

Why do you have to drain the anti-freeze?

I haven't changed the oil in my marauder yet.. so I'm not sure. But if its like my Cobra there's a oil cooler that has coolant going through it between the block and filter

Correct. The oil filter and water outlet both go through the same adaptor.

This would also be a good time to install a oil filter relocation kit.

You may not need a new gasket if you catch it before it really starts leaking - just tighten it down. An allen key fits inside the threaded portion that the filter screws onto.

The gasket is a whopping $8.00 at autozone for the Felpro unit. They call it something stupid like the oil filter adapter not the same that NAPA etc call it.

Make sure you get the one without the oil cooler, that is a different part which feeds all the oil through the cooler before heading back to the engine

I've fixed a few of these and they just take steps to complete the repair...as was stated before there are coolant and oil passages that are ran threw this adaptor/fitting.. I haven't seen one leak coolant yet, but def oil... Not too bad of a job if your skilled or just do your homework., The ones I have seen weren't leaking too bad, just making a mess around the block, the rack, cradle and oh yeah the floor..lol.....Chris bring it thru and I will take care of it for ya!!!:P
Our MM motors don't last when the oil is low esp when your in the pedal.... Tick Tick BOOM:help::bigcry:

Yeah I've got a little mess around all that area and only seen two or three quarter size oil spots on the ground and that's after the vehicle would sit for 10-12hrs (minimal).
