Has anyone expereinced the traction control light coming on/activating during a manual 1-2 shift? I have had this happen on occasion. I have tried to repeat the same shift with traction control off but have yet to see a difference.

You mean the low traction indicator in the instrument panel or the light on the TC button? If it's the one on the dash, then it's simply telling you that you lost traction. If it lights up when TC is OFF, though... well, that's another fartcan of worms...

If it detects wheel slip it will activate and flash the light. If it is off this should not happen.

It only flashes when traction control is turned on but not every time I chirp the tires.
What I meant was that I tried the same shift without the aid of traction control to see if there was any more slippage by the rear tires.

I think the MM's traction control is advanced enough to allow a little bit of slip before it begins to show it's presence.

My traction control has never activated. It seems to be MUCH less sensitive than the T/C on my 98 Crovn Vic PI. The CV is very touchy and seems to activate over just about anything-very annoying at times. The on/off button is in the glove box on the 98-not nearly as handy as the dash location on the MM. I think the Merc secretly LIKES to spin the tires!!! :burnout:

Precisely the reason I bought an '03 without traction control. No offence guys, but traction control is for old ladies.;)

Traction control got me out of that snow bank that loosely resembles my driveway, and managed to get the car BACK UP the driveway so I could clean up the remaining mess!
Started out with this (see the last pic I posted)...
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=87514#post87514
and that degraded into rain this morning followed by more snow.
First attempt trying to plow through the wall of snow, I blew away the rears momentarily and then traction control kicked in and stopped my wheels completely... no good.
So I put her in reverse (I managed to move forward a good 3 inches on the 1st attempt  ) and then back into Drive, and then I remembered what we discussed about the steady pedal, not too much not too little...
Slight wheelspin, then TC kicked in, and the BFGs miraculously dug in and I easily pulled right out of that mess.
Took her down to the street level, then backed her up to the driveway, aiming for the spot next to where it used to be (the clean spot). Again, steady pedal, not too much not too little, TC kicked in and out a few times and steadily and surely the darned thing just climbed the slope.
Now, there's no way TC would make up for good winter tires (not installed yet) but I think in conjunction with good winter rubber it can save one's rump... especially important with an engine that comes on so violently at 3000 RPM or so...

When I slam on the gas, especially in loose dirt, it will spin crazy and never do I see the TC light in the dash light up, or the tires stop spinning. I think I need to have it looked at. I never turn it off, because it does not drive differently. I live in S Fla and wet roads are almost every other day, so the TC would be nice. Has anyone else noticed this problem on theirs??
