Finally about to pull the trigger and am torn between two marauders...

Marauder A: 2003 300a black/black available at the local dodge dealership. 60K miles, cd changer and rear spoiler, one owner car, ford dealer maintained. Has some paint blemishes, the drivers side seat is a wear mark the side of a quarterbut no tears, the finish on the HVAC surround seems to be wearing away. It just got new ball joints and a new "extension housing seal"? what the heck is that... It also has some type of cold air intake and aftermarket mufflers welded to the stock exhaust system, welds look to be great quality. They were asking $16K but after the test drive the salesman came back and said $15.3 on the road... i passed but they called back and said they want to deal

Marauder B: 2003 300B Black/black in Pennsylvania for sale by a guy who bought it off of his friend in a tight financial position. THis car is bone stock and all original except for the passenger side front fender and doors were repainted due to a shopping cart/parking lot incident. This car has 41K miles and was also dealer maintained. The only problem currently is that the radio doesnt work... "only a couple AM stations play" This guy is asking $14.6 but is "slightly negotiable"... i havent driven this car yet but am going this saturday to see it...

What to do....

i forgot to add, because #2 is in storage, the guy doesnt know if it has cd changer or any other options... would be nice if it had the changer and the trunk organizer...

Going saturday morning to see it on my way to new york...

Prices on both seem a bit high.

If it were me, I'd offer the dealer $13.5K cash and see if he bites.

i offered the dealer $12.5 and i'd take care of the taxes, etc... cash... i think thats what they called me about ;)

Hey, good deal. If they're interested, you shouldn't have to budge too much from your offer, especially if they want to move the car.

hey cheesehead! your thread on your eaton swap by impalaslayer is what motivated me to get a Marauder vs a Crown Vicky Sport.... as if a garage full of projects wasnt enough... ;)

If you know that the private sale is negotiable; you know you could get it for $14 (probably) but you'll still have to pay tax on that when you register it.
The Dealer screwed up already. They've told you "they want to make a deal"; dropped the price before you even finished the test-drive; AND called you back...it's all in your court.
Make an offer that's kinda stupid! If they don't bit...walk again. What do you care...you can get the private sale if you want. BUT if they bit...you've saved so much that you can just get replacement parts - maybe even on here - to fix up the car.
Good luck with either though.

Tell you what, you'll enjoy driving your Marauder N/A, but when you can get some $ saved up, S/C is THE way to go!

the dealer car is very appealing even with the small blemishes because:

A: they will do the run around for me (state inspected, tags, one stop shop)
B: 90 day unlimited mileage drive train warranty
C: I need a car today given that my daily driver needs a new motor and it'll be going in the shop as soon as i dont need a 4x4 on stand by...

I have to drive to NYC this saturday and the jeep just wont make it... have already reserved a grand marquis (i love this body style) for the drive but would rather suprise my gf at the airport with the marauder ;)

yeah, the blower will have to wait... my mustang is going into the shop for a complete suspension overhaul in a couple of months once my harley sells and the jeep needs a new motor now :( but the time will come :D

Go with "A"

any reasons why?

CBT

I would go with A if it is a reputable dealer, 90 day warranty is a plus. You have 3 months peace of mind at least, and they are local to you, and you have seen it vice the other one.

they are a reputable dealer...

what is an extension housing seal?

when they pulled the car around for the test drive last week, upon inspection i noticed that the drivers side front rotor wasnt rusting evenly... they turned the rotors to get it through state inspection, while it sat the rotors accumulated the normal surface rust, then when they pulled it around, as the pad made contact with the rotor, there were lines where the pads removed some of the rust, and other lines (circles) where the rust was in tact...

How would pads cause this? bad bearings? any ideas?

Reputable dealer & warranty.

Did you do a vehicle history report on either car?

Make sure you get one!

The rotors got turned, the pads have to wear to hit them flat now.

i saw the carfax on the dealer car... one owner, two local ford dealers maintained it, rear spoiler added at dealership of purchase two months after purchase... no body work indicated on car fax...

should i pull the oasis report?

The extension housing seal is the seal in the extension housing of the transmission.

Go with the dealer Marauder.

Sounds like you are rushing a bit. I know you said you needed a car pronto, but haste makes waste.

Maybe you need to step back a bit and slow down. Your G/F will be happy to see you in any car (as long as it's clean). Go Look at the one in PA (with your gal maybe). Take the car for a spin, see how that one is.

Don't be afraid to let the dealership know you are checking out another one and will get back to them. Don't let anyone pressure you into making a move on a vehicle. It usually raises a red flag in my mind.

The one with low miles deserves a look see, don't you think?

Oh, and cash really talks to private sellers. Not a check, but the real greens. $10,000 in $100 bills is hard to turn down. Wink - wink.

And... if you don't like the PA marauder, don't tell the dealer that. Lie. Tell the dealer you are considering that one at sucha and such a price, and see how low the dealer will go. You are holding more cards than they are.

A.

you know what the car is. They are negotiable, hence their call to you.

B would be no, cause the car is in storage. What else is wrong with it that he is forgetting about? If he doesn't even know about the CD changer and trunk organizer ... what else is there?

Last year I parted out an 03 Cobra. I'd have people that would show up with 50$ when we had arranged 60$ over the phone and just hand me the money like I'd take it.

I got really good at describing where the closest ATM was to these people.

Get the one that comes for the lowest price as long as it is clean. The gf will love the car, so will you. MM only come in black and they get attention where ever they go, always. My only advise is that a MM with 60000 miles is not worth more than $12,000 if that much. Don't get in a hurry. Make a low ball on A and wait, the right car at the right price is out there for you.

Bought my 2003 300A w/45K on the clock. Not flawless but was very nice. Paid $10.5 for mine in TX, but I DID drop a chunk in minor repairs and upgrades. But at $10.5 was a good daily driver with no work. And unless I am wrong, there are alot more on the east coast than here in Taxes..er...Texas. Look in Wilmington, DE and Philly and then take a drive up 95 and go crazy!

I know, they only come in Black, buy the lowest price, blah blah blah....real question is what it the Marauder going to be for you, a beater, daily driver use it throw it away, project car or something special? If something special why not consider the best example, the perfect mods and dealing with the best, most honest guy in Marauder land? Claude's Carfixer Marauder is newly listed here and there is not a better example on the planet, it has the perfect mods, a fair price and Claude. Dennis:bows:

Go with number two. It has about 7 oil changes less than the other. It's cheaper, and i'm sure you can get it for 12k if you wiggle it in his face.
Do an OASIS and carfax check on them first. A radio is pennies, most are even swapping them out for the Ford Escape In-Dash changers anyhow.
20k less miles is a lot of positive on your side, even more so because it is cheaper than the other. Suspension and drivetrain will feel a tad bit sloppier with a higher mileage car, but that is obvious.
Good luck in your decision.
You can also cough up 19k and get my 37k mileage Vortech blown 11 second marauder. ;)

Car is like your gf, did you hurry up and get one cause the holidays were coming or was it just great when you found it. If you're not sure, it's not the one. Patience will pay out.
I spent 4 months looking. Passed on a lot of temptations and kicked myself on a few I passed until I found mine with 2500 on clock. Thing stills smells new. Granted I did pay a pretty penny for it.

I think I'm going to have to sale mine. 2003 300A. Black with Light Flint interior. Has 33K miles and I have to have $14K for it. I just installed new front and tires. I've owned it for less than 6 mos. ONLY reason I'm considering selling it is because were expected a baby at the end of Feb. and my wife wants a 2007 Tahoe. We need more room. I'll have 3 kids. I dont want to sale it, but I think I may have to. I hope not.

Might i add. My car still smells new on the inside.

That would be the only way I'd buy a car with light flint interior...

Carfixers car won't be available by the time I have time to go check it out ( end of Jan) if it is, it would be at the top of my list.

If you are interested and would buy it if it were perfect don't waste time and lose it as it is exactly that and has the perfect mods. If you know Claude you would have no questions other than when can I pick it up? Dennis

Yea both of the prices seem high to me also, Offer the dealer 12,000 be sure to stress that you will have to pay for the a new paint job due to the paint blemishes that were filled in and for anything else that you see wrong with the car that you can use to ur advantage. Dealer dropped $1800 of the tag when i got my car. O and yes CASH makes a big difference.

Slight derail here.

Three carseats fit quite well in the back of a Marauder. 1 booster, 1 large car sear and 1 infant carseat. I have a 2004 GMC Sierra crew with the same carseat setup. Only thing the truck offers over the Marauder is height.

Okay, back on track.

Thats true. But this will benefit my wife. She wants a truck with a 3rd row seat. I cant see me using the MM as a grocery getter and such. I offer to let her drive it, but she's like no way. I'm too picky and too many rules. NO EATING, NO DRINKING, NO DRIVING ON RAINY DAYS, AND ETC...
