I may be getting a great deal on some 17" 03+ LX sport wheels. So.. I had my plan all set for some 16" now that is shot to heck.

Anyone running 17" ? It' a royal PITA to figure out the stagger, then figure out which sizes have snow tires etc...

I have a staggered set on my 03, that are 17", I'll go look & see in a while, and tell you what size.

Sorry I have 16"s, but the stagger is easy to figure.

The 16" staggered size I sold you is as close as you can get to OE stagger on 16s, Tony. Though it really doesn't help the O/P. Just in case you were wondering.

Yeah, but it's easy enough to figure out the right sizes if you can do math.

Wheels are $100 for the set. Aftermarket clearcoat is rough so no guilt for winter beatings. Price is TOUGH to pass on, rusty steelies go for more now

I would suggest trying Bridgestone Blizzak 235/55-17 rears and maybe 235/45-17 fronts.

Ok worked out some 17 inch combos

The stock tire size specs

235/55/18 Front 759 rev/mile

245/55/18 Rear 724 rev/mile

Best combo I found was

215/60/17 fronts 767 rev/mile

235/65/17 rears 717 rev/mile

even 3 brands avail with this combo
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?frontWid th=215/&frontRatio=60&frontDiameter=17&rearWidth=235/&rearRatio=65&rearDiameter=17&x=40&y=13

Switching to 225/60/17 bit taller front size at 754 rev/mile

Only Blizzaks avail with this combo

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Blizzak+WS70&partnum=255TR7WS70&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

Compared to the recomended 16" combo only the generals avail

215/60/16 fronts 772 rev/mile

225/70/16 rear 734 rev/mile

I have a 17" winter setup for Phoebe.

225/60 Michelin (all-season) on the front and 235/65 General AltiMAX Arctics (winter) for the rear. I think it helps preserve both the profile and the stagger, which comes out to 753/719 revs per mile.

Hows the speedo error should be slow, but it it noticeable?

225/60 / 235/65 looks like the best pair to me

I am running Michelin X-Ice
Rear 235/65/17 - 29
Front 215/60/17 – 27.2

on my 03 with no issues

Hows the speedo error should be slow, but it it noticeable? It's Bunny's car and you know how girls are when it comes to speed: "we don't need no stinkin' speedometer"

I just got the 235/65s mounted and they aren't on the car yet. I'll do a GPS comparo and let you know when they're on the car, but by my calculations the winter size is only 0.7% bigger than stock, so I can't imagine it will be of any significance.

So... Updating here

I bought the Bilzzak WS-70 tires last year for my 17" wheels The front size has been my spare since has not been mounted on the car yet

215/60/17 fronts 767 rev/mile 27.2" diameter 235/65/17 rears 717 rev/mile 29/1" Diameter

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?frontWid th=215/&frontRatio=60&frontDiameter=17&rearWidth=235/&rearRatio=65&rearDiameter=17&x=40&y=13

Then I sold my winter beater and bought a 2004 Crown Vic LX with 225/60/16 tires on the stock LX aluminum wheels.

Now I am thinking of using the Rear tires on the MM and the front tires on the rear of the MM.

The nominal specs for the 225/60/16 Michelin's are 782 Rev/mile 26.6" Diameter

Now with my old 2001 I had put 225/60/16 snows on the rear and had 235/55/17 on the fronts and this would trigger the TRAC on high speed off ramps but that was shorter tires in the back not front. I will give it a try anyways and see if it balks

I can run the big rear tires on the rear of the MM with the stock wheels on front, but I would like to put the 16" wheels on instead. I think I will be JUST on the edge of triggering the TRAC as this will give a pretty wide ratio of 782 rev/mile front and 717 rev/mile rear at 91.96% vs 95.4% stock Anyone else run that high??

I run 17s on my 03, works fine with TC

Rear 235/65/17 - 29
Front 215/60/17 – 27.2

Bumping this for an update

With the Blizzack WS-70 you HAVE to run all 4. I put the 215/60/17 on the rear of my winter beater and YIKES it got all squirrely and tail happy on the highway. Then the beater took a dump on me and was out of service for the winter

Mounted the set up on the Marauder 215/60/17 fronts 767 rev/mile 27.2" diameter 235/65/17 rears 717 rev/mile 29/1" Diameter

Car drove fine, speedo error was minimal and it was a BEAR in the snow.

Only issue is those WS-70 are SOFT and the famous front tire wear did a number on the fronts on the inner edge.

The MM centers even fit

This year the Beater was back in action and it got a set of GT radial Champiro Icepros

Cheapest snow tires at Town Fair tire, GT radials are the no name tires they sell comes from Indonesia originally.

But those tires were really great and wear much better than the Blizzacks
