Ok I've been doing my own oil changes for 10 years now so changing oil isn't new to me. I've had free oil changes for the last 4 oil changes on the MM for screwing up my lip spoiler install. So with that said I changed the oil in my MM for the first time at home today. The book says it takes 6 quarts so I put in 6 quarts and I am still down at the bottom of the checkered spot on the dipstick or the quart low mark. I'm afraid to add more oil cause I have already put the proper amount in. So what is the deal here? Am I missing something? Is 6 quarts without a filter change?

wait a while and check again, if it still needs more put in more, I run 6.5 - 7 in mine usually (for other reasons though). But if you add another .5 it's not going to matter honestly, the crank doesn't dip down into the pan, and also at 6qt the pan isn't even close to full. Do a search, there are pics of a pan with 6, 7, 8 qts in it. Not saying put 8qts in, but if at 6 it's asking for more put another .5 in and see what is says.

6 quarts always puts both Phoebe and The Blackbird either right at, or a touch above, the Full mark.

Mine takes 6 quarts to full line, it has in the past taken 6.5 to 7 quarts.

6 quarts here.

BTW "+1" is in agreement with a posting member, not another quart of oil.

5.5-6 for me with filter change.

Right in the middle/upper part on the dipstick.

Well guys I doubt the difference in oil pan capacity is more than a couple ounces on anyone's engine, my guess would be the dip tube/stick is slightly different from engine to engine... I put six qt in mine and it's within a 1/3 quart of being full, good enough for me... My '07 Grand Marquis also gives a similar reading after adding six qt...

I know the safe area on the dipstick of my old '93 Grand Marquis was wrong, when it indicated a qt low adding a qt put it over full by about 1/3qt...

It's the dipsticks, put in the recommended 6 qts and walk away. Deal with this at work all the time

6 quarts. This reminds me of my neighbor who thought his Boss Mustang held 5 qts
thinking that he had the wrong dipstick. He bought a 5 qt dipstick and that's what's
still in it today. The Boss came with a 7 qt dipstick from the factory which he can
not fine in his dads garage.
