Does the oil pressure needle suppose to move or is it supposed to stay at around between 50 and 75? Im asking to see if this is normal cause my oil pressure stays there at all times when running and barely moves.

Yes, the original gauge just stays at about 68 Psi, wich is not a true reading of the real oil pressure.

Might want to do a search to get the particulars...

Doesn't move. You can buy a gauge and sending unit that work, but the factory one doesn't work.

You've heard of idiot lights, well Ford figured out how to turn a real gauge into a idiot gauge, yep they continually read the same pressure whether the engine is cold, hot, idling or running 5K RPMs...

Autometer makes a real gauge that looks almost like the orig that can be installed, my Marauder has one(I may have a pict will post if I do)...

OK here ya go, just posted a link as it's over one MB...

Dayum, never noticed my console needs some paint work, can't see the missing paint just setting in the drivers seat...

^^^what they all said^^^

It's a glorified idiot light: as long as you have ~6 lbs or more, the pressure switch (not sender) closes and the gauge reads about half-way. Get you a real gauge.

This ^^^^^ is not a true statement. The OEM oil pressure gauge works as intended .... its binary .... you either have oil pressure or you don't. It works much like an oil pressure idiot light. It does not give a readout of actual oil pressure.

If you want "real" oil pressure, you have to go for an aftermarket item.

Make sure you change the gauge AND the sender. If you just change the sender, the gauge will sweep very slow. Just the gauge and it will just read the same it does now.

Also, it's fairly easy to swap out the gauge face from the oem into the aftermarket one. The only difference is the numbers are not backlit on the aftermarket one. All you have to do is slowly pry up on the back of the metal trim ring in circles until it opens up. It's easier to do than it sounds.

Just buy these and install them..........

Replacement Gauges:

Autometer (2 1/16)
Oil Pressure – 4327
Sending unit – 2242
Voltmeter – 4391

Replace both gauges because there is a difference between the OEM and the new gauges.

I used Phantom II And went with a mechanical Oil gauge. I like the white face and black bezel, matches the dash gauges and pod better than the silver faced/silver bezels.. In my humble opinion.

The only thing is, you have to put a resistor in the power feed line, because they are LED lights in the Pahntom II, which are more efficient and won't dim without the resistor.....

Do you recall what value resistor is needed?

Oh. No. I'll have to look, I think I have my old Volt gauge wiht the resistor still on it. It was replaced by a BOOST gauge in August. I think we jumped off the OP and just pulled the Volt.

I'll look tonight, If I remember.
