Is there a way to tell what spline a rear diff is? Any certain markings or something to count? I bought what I believe is a 28-spline Ford trac-lok from a friend and just want to make sure since a member on here might be in need of it asap.

if your refering to the carrier its self just count the splines in the spider gears, unless theres a part# to reference

Just shot in the dark here but..........
Count the number of splines inside the spider gears.
The only difference between a 28-spline unit and a 31-spline unit is the spider gears.

I am the member who needs it asap. I had my 4.10's installed less then ten months ago, and bolts inside the diff got loose. To make a long story short, an ******* member installed them without torquing down the bolts. Destroyed my gears, and etc...

FYI.....
Ford makes a stud kit to replace the bolts for the carrier caps.
PN: M-4034-A
I know that wouldn't have helped your situation but the kit adds more insurance since the studs are stronger than bolts.

See if you have a 28 spline axle shaft to try out. It will lock into place with the 28 spline spider gears. It will go through a 31 spline setup.

Thanks for the info bro. I just paid her off and was looking to get a DTR Marauder. I am so pissed off right now at myself, and the ******* installer:mad::censor::mad2:. The money that I will be spending to correct the rear end should have been for mods on a DTR..I have great friends on this site that heard that I was in need and is doing everything in their power to help me out.:D:D:D

I bought that kit when I bought my new diff cover from Wes years ago, just as cheap insurance.
