Hi All, Been away for a couple years and am happy to see the baord still very active.
Started having the problem I read about in a few threads where the radio works fine bu AM/FM signal drops from perfectly clear to nothing. Seems the plug is loose (checked back window connections) or the solder problem I read about in some threads on here has raised its ugly head. I would like to keep the factory radio but have no idea how to remove the radio or find the correct board to solder the connection. Any ideas in the Houston area for shops that make this repair? or any diagrams on the radio wiring harness/radio removal procedure?
thanks
andy

You can either use 4 "penny" nails to remove the radio or go to Wally World and but the radio removal tools. They are "U" shaped tools that you put into the 4 holes on the side of the radio. That releases the clip[s that hold the radio in.
You can send the radio out for repair or you can go with a Focus radio that looks like the stock radio but sounds better and has more features.
Search the site for repair places and the correct PN for the Focus radio.

just get an escape 6cd in dash, or go aftermarket, i think these stock mm radios share the same tombstone as oem bfgs.

I went with a 05 Escape radio. Very happy with it. Bough the removal tool from ebay for $1.00

+3 on the coathanger idea. Took longer to cut and bend the wire, than to get the radio out.
- still haven't fixed mine yet though- :shake:. Thank god for the working CD and iPods with the cassette adapter.

Your radio is definitely a dead one.
I have had a few like that. the FM just fades away.
I am sure it can be fixed, but is it worth it.
A replacement 6 CD from an '05 wreck...I tried that route, broken crap, almost lost my money.
If your keeping the car and driving it, and not making it a Smithsonian model . Does a stock radio really matter any more?
I replaced mine with a double Din Pioneer and its really a very nice radio with very nice features.
I was stubborn too, I even bought a bunch of Marauder radios to try and stay stock. But the radios keep going bad , so now I have a pile of bad radios.
my 2.5 cents

thanks everytone for your input. I bought the DIN pullers and checked the wiring harness just in case. Everything looks good. So the radio is indeed dead from a over the air standpoint. Got it stuck putting it back in as it only clipped on one side. POS LOL!
I am going to keep the vehicle till it dies as its an awesome commuter minus the gas mileage and premium fuel :)
I really love the steering wheel controls and would love to keep them. Do any of the after market double DIN models work with the steering controls? Any model numbers I should look at?
thanks

^^^ there definately ARE ones that maintain the steering wheel controls. I'll have to let others chime-in on that though. I don't know which models of after-market do; but there are ones.

theres a remote sensor that you can purchase to maintain your steering wheel controls, i got mine from mickey shore, its a pinhole size sensor mounted in the dash.
