automatic door lock broken

1 of my doors won't lock/unlock when I hit the switch and can hear a rattling when u close the door. I took it to the dealer and it was : Door Lock Actuator

When you hit the lock;unlock switch, can u hear a whirring sound like a motor briefly running?

Had that problem on my car. Turns out that the POP rivet holding the bottom of the actuator to the door lock face was broken. Replaced the rivet with a 1/4-20 bolt and Nylock nut. End of problem. The POP rivet has a raised button head visible below the door lock when the door is open. Check the inoperative door against an operable door to see if the rivet is missing. Good luck. I had the same prob with my passenger side door lock, my mechanic fixed it for $20. Im curious as to how much the dealer charged to fix yours?

if i shake my door it sounds like the rod is loose. hit the button u hear it wanting to lock/unlock but wont.

Need to buy a new bracket.

I had one of those break on my MM when I got it. It is a cheap piece to replace.

The rod is out of the clip or the clip is broken, Need to remove the door panel to see what it is.

Had to pay $100 deductible for my ext warranty, but they don't show part/labor cost on bill

I got 1 along the lines of this thread...my driver's door will unlock with the remote but will not lock :confused:.
Ideas what to look for, before I go get a Maintenance manual and tear the door apart?

Don't know if its same problem but they replaced my Door Lock Actuator

I had this problem before, on my 94 MGM. It wasn't the pop rivet, though - it was the entire disk of sheetmetal which the rivet was affixed to!
The stresses of locking and unlocking the door over many years fatigued the metal, presumably a little bit at a time, until it was cracked all the way around the rivet head.
