I am getting ready to get the exhaust redone on my MM in January. My current setup is kooks headers (these are staying, though I would like some SS works), Magnaflow hi-flo cats (1 is starting to rattle until it gets warm), the kooks kit x-pipe (f-ing aluminzed pipes grrrrr, I hate rust), 18" magnaflow mufflers, and crappy aluminized extensions on the factory tailpipes that pings like crazy once the exhaust starts warming up and cooling down. Drives me batty in the winter months.....

I have 2 options that don't require all new everything from the headers to tips:

Option 1: Replace the midpipes with good SS pipes, using new spun metallic cats, the Magnaflow x-pipe muffler (P/N 14386), and removing the tip extensions. I would retain my 18" magnaflows and basically replace ll teh crappy pipe and rattling cat

Option 2- New SS mid pipe consisting of new cats, custom h-pipes, and Borla XL mufflers. Obviously the tip extensions would be removed in this setup also.

(the unspoken option)
Option 3- which my wife likes the least and would probably be more than I want to spend is replace everything from the header flanges to tips. (I am going to ask for a rough estimate on this one just to see how much but not very likely)

I know there are a couple members running both Option 1 and Option 2. If you could help me out with sound clips of your exhaust or even video of it running it would be greatly appreciated. looking for idle and running speeds if possible. Thanks.

I still want a little rumble at idle and bark when pushing it just quieter than it currently is. My neighbors will appreciate it when I leave for work at 4:00am and local cops can't pull me over because it sounded like I was going fast.

Phil the muffler x- pipe will do The job just fine. I had it on this car before installing the LT's very quiet when cruising and hell breaks loose at wot.

Im thinking about making a few changes to my setup as well, right now all i have done was changed the stock mufflers to aero turbines and deleted the cats. Can I just get a x pipe put in and change nothing else? also what a good price for the x pipe?

How satisfied are you with the sound from just doing the aero's and cat deletes? I'm going to do it this year coming up. Also, reading your sig, imo I would def do an Escort 9500 over a valentine 1.

The aero turbines with no deletes sound sexy and it is loud when your own the gas and quiet when ur not. I like the sound now but I think I want it just a little louder. I will look into the Escort 9500, I all have ever known was valentine.

Not the 9500, increases sensitivity and distance as you increase your speed. It has all the red light camera locations, and remembers where a cop was hidden throwing laser or radar at you for future notice.

My buddy drives his SS impala spiritedly and has not gotten a ticket ever since getting one in May, and he was bad with getting them before.

radar detectors are a false sense of security, ive been in traffic enforcement for the past 11 years, and i can tell you todays laser/radar technology is far ahead of anything you can get at best buy! not to mention just being in possesion of one is illegal in certain states!

you guess which ones?

Saved our asses plenty a times. By the time you pass a squad the escort would have told you from a mile away that there would be one up ahead. Even in the event the squad has their equipment turned off..what are the cops going to do, pull you over for speeding with no speed equipment verification? That's when you get tickets for tinted windows and front license plates..:bs:

I wonder if the 8500 has some of these functions.

I myself do believe the good radar detectors do work. I will be getting one or the other next month for sure.

Option 1 - what I have. Its quiet, mandrel and stainless. Pic and linky in sig. I can whisper in my MM and hear it at 80. Send me a dB meter as no recording will be correct.. ;)
