I wanted to wish all my family here a very Merry Christmas and share a little story of mine.

I have now been working 20 straight days, my last day off was December 5th. As some of you may know and many of you may not know, my girlfriend and I have been together now for our third Christmas and have been together for 3 years and 4 months. I have never been married nor do I have any Children. She is a wonderful person with 4 beautiful kids of her own, 2 boys and 2 girls, a 15 y.o. boy, an 11 y.o. girl, a 10 y.o boy and a 7 y.o. girl.

Well since I had to be at work at 7 this morning we decided to open our presents last night. We have recently had some troubles with the 15 y.o. who thinks he knows everything and can do what ever he feels like. To him I may be the nicest father figure he has known. Recently we had a falling out in which I was giving him some tough love and he hated me for it and whished I was never around. Then he wrote me a letter appologizing for his behavior and said he loved me....this was a few weeks ago.

Last night I was very touched by a letter that my 11 y.o. wrote that thanked me for everything since I have come into their lives. Such as going to Spurs games, monster truck shows and going to Centerville for our annual Texas Marauder round up, amongst other things we have done that they have never experienced before me. I am basically the only father figure, for the 3 youngest, that they have ever known. After I read that letter aloud it brought tears to my eyes. I was very touched by it, then all the kids came up and gave me big hugs and said they loved me.

Every once in a while they will call me Dad, and I love it. They always announce me as "Dad" when ever we are out some where or their friends come over. This is the first Christmas that I have been so touched by these kids that I call my own.

I just wanted to share and hope all of you had a very Merry Christmas!!

Mike

That is a wonderful story!

Christmas is about giving. And you have been given the best present one could ask for...

Love.

I have an 11 year old daughter, that woke me up this moring at 6:00AM.

Since that time, she has told me she loves me 3 times.

You can never grow tired of hearing those words.

I can say you have had your blessed Christmas.

Enjoy the day and many more to follow. Dad.

Mike.

Great uplifting story. Thanks for sharing and hope you have many more wonderful Christmases.

BTW -- 15 years old is a challenging time. I went through the same confrontation with mine each one in turn. Guess it is a right of passage. Today they are 33, 29 and 27 respectively and we get along great. In fact, they are all here today for Christmas.

The two best words in a childs or teen's vocabulary is "Mom" and "Dad". It's a wonderful experience to help mold their young lives.

Thanks for sharing that Mike, you are blessed even though many times it's bittersweet.

Best Regards,

Pat

What a great story. If only there where more like that. I never ever grow tired of hearing my 8yr old daughter call me daddy and tells me she loves me and gives me hugs and kisses all the time.

Kudos to you for taking on a tough job! This is what Christmas is all about, giving, not receiving.
