View Full Version : My rebuild

Here are the changes the shop made to my transmission in addition to replacing the appropriate parts.

The guy also noted he put in a locking snap ring that won't pop out like the stock ones are apparently prone to doing.

My scanner is packed so I had to take pictures of the packet, sorry for the crappy quality. Everything that is circled is specific values for changes to the trans.

I was wondering if this is similar to a J-mod. I'm transmissionly challenged, so this is all foreign to me!

sounds like good build, how does it perform?

Much better than pre-build. Very firm shifting, but not so hard that you wrench your neck every shift. Everything is more responsive, it acts more like the muscle car it should be.

I had a TransGo kit in my 90 Super Coupe. I loved it, shifted great.

Yes, that's pretty much a J-mod! Orifice plug part is interesting... And the cross drilling in the valve body. May be better than just a plain ole jmod.

That's good to hear. This car has been non-stop trouble since I bought it, it's nice that I'm hopefully starting to gain some ground on it.

These cars are very problem prone, but its a great feeling driving them when they arent having probs.

just stay consistent with your maintanece ,and before you know it your woes will be behind you! as with any car some need more attention than others.

No they aren't.........

Just keep up with regular maintenance.

Replace things when needed.

Don't abuse it.

The MM is no different than any other vehicle.

Yeah, I think (one of) the previous owners may have not kept up on such things, which unfortunately has fallen onto my plate. Oh well, at least I know the repairs are being done right. I still love it.

ok i can agree with that, im just paying the price for a high mileage MM that was neglected by the previous owner.

Mine is a "one owner" car and I've babied it since day one. No major problems yet. Knock wood.

i did the same update to my trans the kit was 65-70 bucks....man was it worth its weight in gold. the shifts are quick and firm. plus i dnt have to worry about blowing up the 2nd gear roller assembly when stomping on it on the highway

Is this with labor?

I have been using TransGo kits in my rebuilds since the late 70's. They have been doing kits, especially in the southern CA area since the 60's. They even made kits for the old Ford-O-Matics from the 50's. My uncle had a trans shop in LA from 1959 to 1989 and used only their parts. I have always liked them.

This isn't as in depth as the sk aode kit. You need to be able to know trannys a bit more. This kit is a good basic one that is easy: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRG-AODE-HD2/

Pretty close to the j-mod. The j-mod doesn't require the purchase of any parts.

Labor would depend on the labor rate in your area. I'd guesstimate about 2-3 hours to install this kit.

Wow, that just seems high to me when you could buy a used one and throw it in for less. You can buy a transmission WITH a Marauder engine attatched for that, we've all seen them pop up before.

+1 Darren (BC Automotive) will ship you a complete transmission for 2K or less.

I don't disagree, but this was a complete rebuild. Every gear burned up, including the TC. The trans committed suicide and took everything with it.

Of course, labor isn't cheap either. I don't have the tools or the space to do any major work, so I didn't really have much of a choice.

No, Drilling hole in the main control creating cross leaks takes a lot of the control away from the Trans buy changing the hydraulic circuit. I know lots use it and it work fine, but I'll trust the the god father of the AOD/4R70/75 trans Jerry Wroblewski his trans with his modifications and the correct tune will hold a lot of power.

Here is a link to some of his notes
