What are the N/A guy's doing for fuel pump swaps?

I'm looking to replace mine and i'm just wondering if an upgrade is worth the extra cash or if I should stay with a stock unit.

I would stay with the stock one if you plan on staying N/A.

Yes it is worth it, you won't have to worry about upgrading in the future.

Don't know much about fuel pumps but have seen many posts talking about Focus and GT pumps. Might also try a google search.

^^^ Thanks Dave. I will stay NA for a little while longer (i'm in the middle of a PSRI purchase) but later on I will go with either a DIY centri build or a DR NOIC so I better go ahead with the FP upgrade.

It's guy's like you that make this site great!

then id pop in a ford GT pump for now and ad a boost a pump later when you go FI. you can do it now but you will not need it so may as well save the cash for now.

If you have any desire to go FI go with the Ford GT fuel pump. I'm still NA and went with the Ford GT one.

A GT pump and a BAP works great I'm at @ 65-70% dc on the pump at 430rwhp, but if your not needing more fuel now and your current system is working fine why upgrade now? Bank the cash and upgrade the fuel system when needed

Why replace the stocker? Is it broken? How many miles on it?

musclemerc

I've been running out of fuel at WOT.
No it is'nt broken as of yet.
82,xxx miles

My plan is to upgrade it and have the values on my tune raised a little

Just curious, have you datalogged and checked the FP duty cycle and fuel pressure? Is the AFR going lean on the dyno? The stock pump should have more than enough capacity for a NA car. Have you replaced the fuel filter?

My wife's car has 165k on the stocker with no problems.

Yes, I have data logged it. I got Zack involved and he sent new numbers for the tune but he also warned me that the FP sounds like it's running out at WOT and maybe in need of a swap. The filter has recently been replaced

Any chance you got a bunch of crap in the tank and the fuel sock is pluged? Just a guess

I pulled the FP assembly a few months back just to make sure there was'nt a clogged sock or feed line issue.

I'm throwing a 0190 code shortly after going WOT. Between Zack's input and my data logging we both think the FP is'nt keeping up with the values from the tune so we upped the values, changed the fuel filter, and checked the pump assembly for issues.

He advised me to get a SVT focus FP so the parts hunt is on!

The last dyno tune that I had, we saw that at WOT the OEM fuel pump was maxxed out at @ 6,000 rpm.
I'm shifting at 6,100 rpm because that's "all she wrote".
I've got a new Ford GT fuel pump that I will install when I pull the rear axle for its' complete rebuild/upgrade.

I just got done installing twin focus pumps on the Merc. Picked them up on the cheap, both for $150.00 brand new. I also decided to cut the wiring for the sender and used weatherpack connectors to put it back together. Tomorrow I will do Zack's fuel filter mod with a 3" filter.

This week I can start data logging again to see how well they're keeping up with the fuel demands.

:burnout:
