I'm starting to look for a light pick up to be my daily driver/beater. Looking for an extended cab, 4-6 cylinder, for under $5k. Transmission type doesn't really matter, so stick or auto is fine.

Would prefer a Ford Ranger or Mazda b-series, but am also interested in Nissan Frontiers, or Toyota Tacomas. No Dodge's please.

Also not really looking outside of Florida but southern Georgia or anything within about 10 hours of Tampa is okay.

Nice :D I would love something like that but need a small Eco truck right now. I dream of when I can own a late 70s early 80s Bronco and lift the piss out of it.

Found a some interesting little trucks at a few local buy here pay here used car lots so hopefully the MM will be retired from DD duty by Monday.

Making sure I show up cash in hand, with a flashlight, scanner tool, and a towel to lay on when I go under it.

My son bought a used Ford Ranger, aka: Danger Ranger......

Was only a couple grand, V-6, 5-speed, A/C, AM/FM-Cassette, cloth interior, aluminum wheels, 2-wheel drive, standard cab.

Not a bad truck.

Easy to work on, good gas mileage.

When he get tired of driving it I'll buy it from him.

I needed to find a DD and this past summer I went looking for a used Ford Ranger.
My budget was also $5,000, but I found this "creampuff" '99 XLT Ranger (only 72,000 miles) for $7,000 and bought it that day.
It has the factory tow package with auxillary trans cooler/hitch/limited slip diff along with the entended cab and swing out doors.
Great little truck, with power windows/locks/mirrors, that I enjoy driving....though it is 'a tad' slower than the Marauder!
I found it through this website: http://www.cars.com/

Very nice, Joe!

I had a "wife-imposed" budget of $4,000; can't hardly find http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/images/smilies/shithappens.gif in that price range.

Was lucky to grab Amigard's Lightning, now I just gotta find time to get up there to pick up the pick-up.

I forwarded that "Lightning for Sale" thread to my brother....he was thinking about buying it but you beat him to it!
That was a very good deal on a nice 'old school' Lightning truck!
I'm sure you will have it cleaned up and running great in no time.
Let me know if you are heading up this way to pick it up....

The nice thing is that it is so easy and relatively cheap to make BIG power out of a pushrod 351W!
Stroker cranks, roller cams, good rods, lots of aluminum heads, superchargers.....

Got one yesterday. Picked up a well used 1998 Mazda B4000, auto, extended cab, w/250k miles. Needs a little TLC, basic fluid changes, standard tune up stuff, a passenger side mirror, and the driver side window will pop off the tracks if you go to low with it.

Body and frame are in really good shape even if the paint is not. I was more worried about the condition of the body than I was about the other issues. Time to pick up a manual and start cleaning her up.

Plan on scouring the local U-pull em junk yards to see what odds and ends I can pick up for cheap.

It's perfect for the $1200 I paid for it and if I get 12-24 months out of it I'll get my moneys worth. Just happy now I can haul stuff again.

Most of the stuff i found for my beater truck i found on Craigslist. Let me know if you need a hand with anything as i'm often riddled with boredom while i'm on my off time.

Had it less than a week and pulled the motor, due to a blown head gasket. Stripped the heads off the block and both are toast. The cylinder walls look pretty good, but had 2 cylinders that leaked down on me.

Could be rebuilt fairly cheaply but picked up a junkyard motor with 90k for $700. Getting ready to change out a couple gaskets and drop the motor in either during the week or next weekend. Figure I'll get it running w/the junkyard engine then strip the old V6 down and clean it up on the cheap. I want to just to get an engine build under my belt. I can get all of the machine work done for about $300-400. The rest will be about $800 or so in parts and then a few hundred in tools.
