View Full Version : Won't run after start...

The pile of problems with this car is starting to get very disheartening. :(
The most recent is I went to start the car this morning and it won't idle after I start it. If I get in the gas it will stay running, but as soon as I let off, it dies.
I had this problem right after the trans rebuild, and it turned out the intake tube had not be properly attached to the throttle body. I reattached the tube and it ran fine.
This time, however, the tube is on properly. Nothing in the air filter. It ran fine the day before, so I'm a little stumped.

I just found the thread on that. I forgot to search before I posted.
No, I haven't cleaned it. I'll pull it off and check it out.

Make sure your MAF connector is plugged in.

Cars need maintenance. **** happens without it.

Totally should have searched first. I cleaned out the IAC and it's running now. I did the MAF while I was at it, so hopefully it will be a while before either of those need anything again.
For future reference, not that it's a big deal, but it's a 8mm socket, not 10mm. The thread I found that had a how-to said 10mm. Doesn't really matter since it's pretty easy to figure out.
As for the maintenance thing... I know all too well that cars need maintenance. Historically I've been a preventative maintenance kind of guy, making sure things are done before the problem crops up. I just keep getting caught with these little surprises, and I have so little time to work on the car that I can't keep up with it.
I've just conceded myself to the fact that my car is a sassy b!tch with an attitude, and it's her way or the highway.

I had the IAC problem recently too, and solved it through this forum. Pretty cool.

+1 That's the first thing that came to my mind. Unplug it and replug it in.

I left the MAF unplugged once, car actually ran, but not very well, lol.
Yeah Juice take all that stuff off and spray clean the be-jesus out of it every now and then, throttle body too next time if you didn't do it this time. Take out the upper and lower intake too and spray clean all stains off of them. Anyone who has a day with nothing to do can do all this.

You might not want to use carb cleaner for the Maf sensor, better to use maf cleaner or electrical Contact cleaner

Yes, definitely use the correct cleaner for whatever part you are cleaning.
