I purchased a catch can system from musclemerc a while back and got it installed this week.

Easy to follow instructions, top notch workmanship, and the unit works great; no more fumes or blow by.

For you Eaton swap guys out there running open breather cap systems, I highly recommend this mod.

That is one nice looking setup Rex, i'm glad it came out exactly as I planned. This is the first FI setup running my catch can I know it will keep that Eaton and intercooler clean for years to come.

Thanks for your purchase, if you need ANYTHING please PM me.

Shortys are still awaiting install. This goofy work schedule I've been on has made it tough to get things done on the car. :(

What problem does a catch can solve? Is the condition limited to s/c motors or include n/a as well?

If the PCV system is eliminated and replaced by breather caps, the crankcase will vent directly to atmosphere rather than being cycled back through the engine (often done on the Eaton swap cars due to the relocation of the air intake tube, which is opposite OEM). Venting to atmosphere generates fumes under the hood, which often migrate into the cabin. Also, the oil mist in the blow by gets deposited on the cam covers, which is an issue for those owners with OCD about their engine compartments.

The catch can is plumbed into the engine to resolve the above, plus musclesmerc's looks good, too. Bling for the OCD guys, FTW!! :banana2:

Yes its good for N/A, take a look at your upper intake and see how dirty it is. It Keeps the intake clean by keeping oil out of it.

This is what the lower intake manifold will look like after 150k miles and never cleaned without a catch can installed. lol

On the upper intake manifold you can see where the oil stain is, that is where PCV valve is on the passenger side of the intake.

I bought a fake Greddy oil catch can off ebay.

This is the cap with the 45 degree angle brass fitting for the inlet.

Cap with the inlet tube, has 4 or 5 drilled holes in the side of the pipe and then wrapped the pipe with a stainless steel scrub pad (not a brillo pad). The stainless steel scrub pad is used to break up the oil vapors.

Went to Advance AutoParts and bought 6ft of heater hose. ImpalaSlayer recommended that I use brass fittings and cooper pipe which I picked up at Lowes.

I'm all for the DIY especially if you can save a buck or two. If you can make it yourself I say go for it! I researched the catch can idea for a long time before I came up with my design. Alot of thought went into the type of can, and the materials used inside. Birdman, there are a few things you did'nt consider with your construction.
First the baffle is on the wrong side, you want to baffle the feed to the intake not the output of the pcv valve.
Your baffle is also way too long **you dont want it that long where it can suck up the oil collected on the bottom of the can**.
Next you need to come up with something that will keep the pot scrubber from being sucked into the intake track and to the heads.
The hose openings on on the top of your can are too small, figure something out to make the opening on the inside of the can the same diameter as on the outside of the can.
The 5/8" heater hose is not the correct diameter for pcv, it's a 19/32" diameter.
You gotta do something to keep the hose open under WOT**it will draw closed**, find a long SS spring and insert them into the hoses.

Heres a few things I do to my can to make it unique. I use a dense SS filter element that has mesh on both sides to prevent it from being sucked into the intake track. The filter element is in a sealed enclosure to ensure no vapors can pass through and into the intake track. My baffle is always half the length of the can **no way it can sit in the collected oil**. The hose openings of my can are drilled and tapped and replaced to the correct diameter 19/32" fitting and go all the way through the can, I chose the best metals to go inside my can, the down pipe I use inside the can is 5/8" SS, the connectors are brass, the sealed enclosure for the baffle is copper, and the filter element is dense SS material. If I send hoses with my kit they have SS springs inside to keep them open at WOT

**I have a few pics atatched at the bottom of this post on my can**

For the few of you that believe catch cans are just another bling item for under the hood here are a few pics of my can on a NA setup. I have'nt drained this can in like 9 months. I also have to admit not all cars will have the same amount of blowby some could be more... some could be less. As you can see in the pics there is alot of oil collected in there, the oil is now up to the bottom fitting for the sight line. The next pic shows the outside heigth of the fitting, so you can get an idea of how full it is.

I'm still not gonna service it just yet, the output to the intake hose is bone dry and the can is still performing as designed. :burnout:
