To get started I'd say 1st gear.

I have always used 2nd to get started, due to less torque, equals less wheel spin when starting out, but once you learn your car you will be able to feather the gas in any gear, and get the results you want.

To get started use 2nd gear. Less tire spin at lower rpm's. First gear will just want to break loose and spin. I put it in 2nd and once I get going, I push her up into drive. I can go anywhere with this car using this method... JUST DID ACTUALLY! Snowing like a bastard here right now and I just got to work.

1st is too much torque for slick conditions.

With 21 years of Long Island , NY driving--I learned that------when approaching any type of stop, shift into "Neutral"---this eliminates any push by your idling engine-- allows you get all the braking available---try it, you'll like it, Maury

I usually hold the brake down and tach the car up to around 2200rpm. Then when it's time to go, I let off the brake and mash the gas. Works every time.

or if you have traction control ,dont have to worry about too much wheel spin just start in first gear.

I do the same thing.

How about Park... Too many Marauders have been smashed up in the snow.

I used to do 2nd for the first couple feet then up to D. But with these snow tires and NO weight, she moves right on along now. :)

^^^^^ Was thinking the same thing, Brian.... ;)

If you gotta worry about the car sliding around due to road conditions, maybe not a good time to be out on the road with a MM.

Or if your initials are JG, you don't drive in the rain, either...;)

First, make sure your tires are at least moderately up to the task. Drive has always worked for me, just easing away from a stop. Second gear, if i happen to end up on a little more slick surface.

With factory tires, Park. My MM never left the spot when I got caught in one of those random D.C. winters. With the snow tires I started out in 2nd. Even in my Subaru I still start out in 2nd cause I'm already 3 psi in around 2600 rpms.

+2 The rear tries to go everywhere in first (if you don't have TC). I learned that trying to get started on a hill last winter.
